| | | Chest Pain Well, today earlier at work, I felt this crazy pain on the left side of my body that went from the front of the chest, around the shoulder, and to my back.
I was in so much pain that I could hardly move and the only way it would stop is if I sat down and leaned against a wall or something.
Now, about 6 hours later, most of the pain is gone but I have noticed that when I inhale, I can feel a slight pain to the left of my sternum and right below my clavicle...
I am assuming that is an issue with the heart or the lungs due to a poor diet
Does anyone know what the problem could be?
By the way, I am 16 years old and about 5'5" and I weigh about 110 pounds

| | | sounds similar to something i had....something is inflamed and is rubbing against your ribcage or something. Sorry I'm bad at explaining but you should try an anti-inflammatory. When I had this they just told me to take 3 ibuprofens ever 4 hours for a couple days.
As long as the pain isn't dull, you are ok, but definately get it checked out.

| | I would definitely suggest going to a doctor to check it out. All intense chest pains should be checked out by a doctor. A year ago I had sudden chest pain radiating down my left arm. I went to the doctor and the ER and they had to check me out to make sure I wasn't having a heart attack or a pulmonary embolism. It turned out to be costochronditis which is an inflammation of the cartilage where the ribs attach to the sternum. Not serious just painful. Again go to a doctor, only they can give you an appropriate diagnosis.

More then likely it is not serious; however, you need to tell your parents and have it checked out if it persists. It could be any number of things. Someone said gas...could be, could be something more.
From now on I would post these questions to your parents and not an internet forum.

| | It might be costochondritis...I get the same thing! It's a really intense pain and it'll hurt to breathe when it flares up...if that's what it is, then it's no big deal |

| | | Go to the doctor!!
I will add though that most young patients who come into my clinic with chest pain are having anxiety attacks. BUT you never know. |

| | | Good GOD, go to a doctor! It is probably just GERD, but you need to get it checked out. You could have a congenital heart defect and be one foot from the grave!
