arghhh i need to RANT about ringworm! i have no idea where it came from..but it happened earlier this summer with one on my chin. i went to the derm and got some prescription clobetasol propionate, but throughout the course of the past few weeks it's spread to my cheek as well. it itches like CRAZY, and it looks like im a diseased leper!! im slathering that stuff on like no business, but with my terrible skin and great luck, some acne has now appeared over some of the sore. im too scared to combine the benzyl peroxide zit zapper on top of the clobetasol for fear of some bad reaction that'll make it even worse. now it looks terrible, i hate going out because it looks so bad. im trying really hard not to itch it for fear of spreading it more, but its hard . im thinking of going back to the derm, but dammit it probably means i have to wait like 3 weeks for an appointment, and chances are they'll just say keep up with the clobetasol. what sucks almost equally as much is when you tell people it's ringworm, they have this horrified look, because they dont know its not an actual WORM growing under your skin, its just a fungal infection. has anyone ever had ringworm before? it sucks.

I had it on my arm before. I got it by merely rubbing my arm against my boyfriend's arm. It took forever to go away! I'm so sorry you have it on your chin, that must be a horrible place to get it. Hopefully, it will go away soon!

Well, if its ringworm, you need an antifungal cream to clear it up. Something like lotrimin, clotrimazole, lamisil....that type of thing. Clobetasol is a steroid, so it would help with the itching, but not with clearing up the actual infection. Did they definitively say it was ringworm? And did anyone suggest getting an antifungal for it?

i totally know you you feel! i had ringworm on my cheek/chin too when i was in junior high. it looked like a giant raw scab on my face.. blehh. i hope it goes away for you soon, but mine took a really long time to clear up

i sprayed tenactin on mine and they go away after about 5-7 days. i had one on my neck once that looked like a hickey.

i find that eating yogurt with live active cultures keeps you from getting infected with the fungus if you touch someone with it. i actually highly recommend a yogurt daily if you are in frequent contact with wrestlers/jiu jitsu practitioners, etc.

I got it when I was in high school on my leg **damn swim team!!!** LOL. Anyway, yes OTC Lotrimin etc will clear it up. My doctor said at the time that it isn't the amount you put on it's how well you rub it in. I did that a couple times a day & it cleared up pretty quickly but I noticed that it flared up again if I didn't keep applying (do it for a few days after even after things look cleared up) It's a weird infection! Sorry, it's got to be hard having it on your face! Good luck!

Sorry. My skin crawls when I hear something about a ringworm. I freaking hate ringworms, my son actually has ringworms that have been growing on him for the past month or two. They would grow anywhere. We have no idea where they were coming from because he was not in contact with anyone else for us (parents) and his sister. My daughter actually had the same thing when she was younger. I had to take him to the doctor to get some grisoluvin(sp) because the antifungal cream wasn't working. Hopefully, this can stop the ringworms from re-developing. We get ringworms from just touching my son and everything. I have one on my arm now and it freaking sucks.

A Doc told me once you can get ringworm from pets, specifically, dogs. Thought that may be useful.

You can get ringworms from cats. Get some antifungal cream and stick a bandaid over the infected area so it wont spread. Its probably spreading from your face being on your pillow at night.

thanks for the suggestions everyone! i do have lotrimin, i will try that instead of the clobetasol. might be better too, since the clobetasol is a gel and makes me look like i have oozing skin!! i'll try changing my pillowcase every night as well or putting a bandaid on it.

and yes, unfortunately i know about the animals...i actually work as a vet tech and all my coworkers have told me to be careful around all the dogs and cats. i check my own dog every day to make sure HE isnt the one having it.
