moksha Yoga

Does anyone here practice? I just started a couple months ago and I absolutely love it! I wish I could go everyday but it is like a 45+ drive for me

I do bikram yoga between 5 and 7 days a week. Love it, but my back is killing me after completing my 36 classes in 6 weeks challenge.

Thankfully, I've got today and tomorrow off since Bikram is coming to Chicago, so all the teachers at my studio are there and can't teach class.

That is hardcore! Seriously, mad props! I did 3 times in one week and it was insane. I love it though, I wish it was closer. I feel so awesome afterwards.

You get used to it after a while. The only really hard times were when I was going through a 2 week stomach virus. That was not pretty.

I've got asthma and fibromyalgia, so class is always a little hard for me at first, but once we get into the floor series, I'm fine.

I'm so glad because there's a studio 15 minutes from my house. I would have had to drive 45 minutes (and possibly have the class be full) to get to the other studio that was the closest one before the one I go to was built.

Moved to Health/Fitness.

I would love to try this, but there isn't a studio nearby.

A girl who tanned at my store just opened a studio for hot yoga (i dunno what the real name is sorry) temps ranging from i think 95-105 or something crazy like that. She offered me a discount to come try...4 sessions for $40. Is that a good price? I know nothing of yoga as I have never done any variation of it before? Should a person start out with the non-heated variety first? or does it really matter?

It's definitely something that I am interested in...just don't know where to start.

Thanks!

I have heard of that hot yoga (Bikram yoga). I don't think I would be a good candidate for it since I don't tolerate heat well. The humidity is usually about 40%. If I could, I would give it a shot for $40. Do you have any issues with heat?

I tried it last summer, and hated it. It was way too hot for me... I don't usually have heat issues, but in a room that hot I felt like I couldn't breathe (and I was in kickass shape at the time, dancing/working out 4-5 days per week). People who love it love it, but I couldn't deal... I felt like I was going to pass out/throw up for most of the class. Bring lots of water, and drink lots at least a couple hours before!

I was paying about $15 per class, but I don't know what studios in your area are charging... but $10 sounds like a good deal to me!

I've done it on and off for the last couple years (the studio near me offers unlimited month-long passes) and I don't know if I would recommend it for someone who has never done yoga before. It is a completely different experience than a normal yoga class, usually longer and much more intense. I think the 'afterglow' comes more from being dehydrated than from the actual practice, so I am a bit skeptical. In the winter, I love it, but when the studios are crowded its just not worth the money for me.

Also, something you might want to take into consideration if you are sensitive to this kind of thing: high humidity, over 100 degrees = it will smell absolutely disgusting about 5 minutes in. and depending how crowded the class is, you may or may not end up with someone's nearly naked sweaty body extremeely close to your face in some of the poses (they tell you to dress like you are going to the beach, which at least at the ones I have been to means there will be at least one old guy in a banana hammock )

OMG I died. That was funny, thanks for that.
$40 for 4 sessions is an awesome price. I pay $16 each time I go. They do offer an unlimited monthly pass but since it is pretty far away for me I just pay as I go. I passed out during a 90 minute session once. It was my own fault though, pretty hot day, did an intense run before I went and I did not drink nearly enough water. I felt like a total ass but I figure I wasn't the first one to do it and probably not the last.
Cheers for the move.

I think I may just wait until winter then...and maybe try to find a regular room temp yoga class first. MJ only offers hot yoga.

Oh sweet lord I had to google banana hammock. Yes, the name is pretty selfexplanatory but i just had to see if it meant what I thought. o.O

I could never do hot yoga. I practice ashtanga and I sweat like a pig from doing that in an airconditioned room.

The humidity at the studio I go to is around 50-60%.

And, yes, $10 a session is a reasonable price. The studio I go to is $15 for a drop-in class (i.e. you haven't paid in advance for a certain number of classes or paid for unlimited classes).

my first time ever doing yoga was bikram. and i hadn't worked out in a while. and although i love to sweat, i hate heat. at first it did feel like i couldn't breathe, but all you have to do is lie down on your back and within a few moments you feel better. after i left, i'd never felt better after working out. i mean, i sweat out EVERYTHING.
