Need an online cancer support group

Hey guys,

About a month ago, my uncle was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer and was given about 6 months to live.

My uncle and my grandma both live in the same city but grandma is over 90 years old so there is only so much she can do to help, and seeing her son going through this is very, very hard on her. Both my mom and I each live in different states, and while we've each been down to help it is tough being so far apart yet trying to offer help and support.

I just got the call this morning that he is headed back into the hospital because he is unresponsive and unable to control his faculties - we (mom and I) are coordinating a trip from our respective states, but in the meantime I am trying to find any additional helpful outlets and am currently searching for an online cancer support group.

I Googled this earlier this morning but am a little overwhelmed by the sheer number of groups out there; can anyone give me some guidance about support groups you are familiar with/recommend? Any help would be great.

the national cancer centre has a search on their page that lets you find various support groups. i'm not sure if that is what you are looking for though.

or are you looking for more an online forum type thing?

I don't know of any support groups either but I know firsthand how tough it is to watch a loved one die from cancer. So you and your family will be in my thoughts!

You may have already tried this, but I did a search based on my zip code here and it gave me a bunch of resources:

You could also check out yahoo groups. I found a great group when my son had terrible reflux as an infant. I'll be thinking of you and your family.

Update: Mom is now heading to CA on a flight tomorrow and I will be joining her on Monday.

According to the ER nurse, they will be tapping his lungs again on Monday (they keep filling with fluid; they took out 3 liters the first time and 2 liters the second) and he's a candidate for hospice...as long as he agrees to it. The tough thing is, the cancer has metastasized to his brain (among other organs) and he's convinced that he can continue to live life as normal and that he can continue to care for grandma. The reality is that grandma is trying her darndest to care for my uncle (her youngest son) and she's ragged emotionally and physically from the strain.

It looks like he may not make it another month, but we're all praying for him. At this point, he's stopped all treatment. Thank you to everyone who's keeping him in their thoughts...this has happened so quickly that I need to even put trying to join an online support group on hold for now. I my AF family and SO truly appreciate your thoughts and support.

Wow i am so sorry to hear that I am not sure what type of cancer he has but my mom and I were both members on this website LUNGevity Foundation - Lung Cancer Support Community when she was diagnosed with lung cancer. It was really helpful to us and all of the people there were very nice and knowledgeable.
My thoughts are with you and your family.

I am glad you posted this topic. My mom was recently diagnosed with Stage 1 lung cancer She will be admitted tomorrow to have a 1 inch spot removed from her lung. She was scheduled for a hip replacement surgery when the cancer was spotted during routine testing.

I will keep your family in my prayers.
