Really dry eyes?

Ok, for about a week now, my eyes have been really dry. I went for a couple of days without my contacts because they kept clouding up on me. i have bought 3 different kinds of eyedrops and i thought it was getting better, but when i got up this morning..no good. can't wear my contacts. I've never had allergies before but i know it sounds like allergies....they are dry and late in the day, when i close them, they burn. could this be some kind of eye infection? What do I do...I HATE wearing my glasses!!!!

Honey, you go and see an ophtalmologist, that's what your're going to do. And right now. Because you can really damage your cornea with dry eyes.

I'm with jenn. See an opthalmogist now! I once had eye dryness and redness and ended up it was an eye disease that could have caused blindness if not treated with prescription drops. You never know and it's better to be safe than sorry.

Thanks.....I followed your advice and went to an opthalmologist. He turned my eyes inside out and said that i have an eye infection AND my tear glands are clogged up. He gave me some ointment and drops Thanks again

I'm glad you went! My eyes were really dry and I ignored it for 3 months.
The eye doctor told me that I have serious eye damage for my age. She changed contacts and told me to wear them for no more than 6 hrs a day

heh, sorry I missed this one, your tear ducts are clogged, DONT TOUCH YOUR EYES or the INFECTION WILL GET WORSE! trust me on this one. I did and my infection got worse my sty was huge and my lid wouldn't close. It was nasty. I had to get it drained. Painful, itchy, red, scaly eye. Ew. Just hang tight and wear your glasses it will only be a few days to a week to get better.

You can try laying those cloth cold compresses over your eyes to soothe them if they are still itchy/burning. If too cold, add a towel layer in-between!

they don't seem to itch too bad unless i start to rub them...then i go crazy!! the doctor told me to put really hot compresses on them to help open up the tear glands and then wash them with baby shampoo.

Lol!!! When I posted the last whacko looking post, it said something like posting a poll or something, and the page looked all weird before skipping to the post.

Oops, that makes sense with the clogged ducts!
Another thing is to fool your senses by creating pain somewhere else...stub a toe or something! May look foolish though
If inflamed, did the doctor say you can take an anti-histamine or something? Works for allergy reactions, but I don't know about eye-related infections...

I hate eyeball-related discomfort! Eyelid flipping by the doctor freaks me out.

I forgot to say def. use hot compresses. This really does work. If you can, leave on eyelid for 20 min on/20 min off. My dad is opthomologist and this is what he always tells me. Ive never used the ointment, only drops and they cleared it up fast. Try to avoid direct sunlight - which REALLY hurts when you have an eye infection. And try not to stress...stys/infections are common. In a week or less you'll be back to normal
