root canal

So tomorrow I will be having my first ever root canal. I feel like a POS because until now I've always had excellent teeth. I'm really nervous!

good luck I've never had one myself, but my dad's had several and he survived I think they numb you up pretty good so you don't feel what's going on.

I've had um...many of them. Many, many.
If you have a good dentist, the worst thing you'll feel is the anesthetic and a bit of jaw soreness after...and some pain in your wallet.
Good luck!

I just had my first recently... I was REALLY nervous about it, but it was not as bad as expected. Just a bit sore after... Good luck!

i've always had great teeth - no issues. until a dentist hit my root last yr during a filling and killed the root. a month later i had to have a root canal and it was nothing. i was really worried too. i wasn't even sore that night after the anesthetic wore off.

don't worry - you'll be fine!!

I somehow missed this thread! How did everything go???
I work for an endodontist (he is a root canal specialist) and we have patients that come in soooo nervous. But most everybody does just fine! There are a few though that make our day really looooong.
I don't mean to make it sound like we don't care. We really do treat every single person the same, but some can be sooooo dramatic!

The DECAY hit/reached to the nerve (not root, nerve, technical term 'pulp'), not the dentist

It went really good! Hardly any pain afterwards!

And don't worry. You didn't make it sound like you don't care. I'm a nurse and there are some days at work that certain patients drive me nuts!

I used to dread root-canals, then my dentist suggested some <laughing gas> for relaxation, in addition to regular pain-killers. Wow! That stuff is surreal, and totally takes off the edge...you're there, but out - at the same time. Ask for it!
