UGH!! NuvaRing side effects!!! -- girls only!

I have to rant about this! I went on the NuvaRing for the first month...put it in on the 1st day of my period last month, and HAVE NOT STOPPED BLEEDING for 23 days. IT IS LIKE HAVING 4 BACK TO BACK PERIODS.

Took out the ring on the 22nd day, so I suppose I'm on "regular period" now. I really hope it goes away when it's supposed to, and doesn't do this next month or I am going to go crazy.

This has happened to me, too. I was going for a two week vacation starting on a Saturday. So my 2nd day there (Sunday) I took the current one out and put another one in to stop the period. Instead, I bled (but sometimes brownish or dark red....ewww) for THREE weeks nonstop. I thought there was a problem so I went to the gyno and they said that sometimes the Nuvaring does not work for some people. So I totally know what you mean....

2ndly, I'm almost 100% sure I've gained weight on the Nuvaring (as well as lost my sex drive a bit) . I've always had a bad diet....lots of fast foods and junk BUT after going on the Nuvaring I slowly gained up to now 15 pounds from where I was before. I don't think it's my diet because the ONLY thing that's changed is the ring. I'm eating as healthy/unhealthy as before.

ANDDDD I constantly get discharge.

The only reason I am still on it is because I ALWAYS forgot the pill and it was a hassle.

^^^^ Sorry ladies to hear about your experience w/ Nuvaring. I have had great luck with it and really like it! I don't think that I would go back to the pill (even if I could).

Yeah, that is too bad...I LOVED Nuvaring - never had any weirdness like that. I've been off BC for a year TTC, but am now on the pill for an upcoming surgery and HATE it! I cannot remember to take that stupid thing everyday!! Spoiled by Nuvaring!

Aw that sucks. Change BC! You can also try out the patch.
Was it spotting or a constant flow?

Actually I would not recommend the patch. I've known a few girls that took it and all of them had a rash-like reaction to the patch and one (who was mid-late 20's) at the time had a stroke from it.

Wow that is really scary.
There's also this thing (1/4th size of a toothpick) they insert into your arm, I forgot how long it lasts. They had a model of a fake arm and let us touch it to see if we could feel it.
Oh and injections.

I would really recommend giving any birth control a couple of months before switching again. You always have to give your body time to get used to it. Most any hormonal method is bound to cause breakthrough bleeding for a couple of months.

It was pretty much a constant flow -- like being on a medium-light day of my period, for 21 days in a row. I'm really really hoping it stops, but I'm going to stay on it for at least 4 months. I used to be on the Pill and I was ok at taking it, but this is way way better.

I'm actually only THIS mad because it's kinda like birth control is PREVENTING me from having sex!

me either! I'm on the nuva ring and love it! I haven't had any side effects. I had horrible problems with the pill -- mood swings and feeling sick. I know the nuva ring has affected my mood a little bit, but definately nowhere near what the pill did to me!

Actually I do have one problem with it. The price!!!! Almost $80 for 3 months. At least my insurance pays half but it's still pretty pricey. Trying to convince the BF to pay for half since he benefits from it too.....

I agree! STAY AWAY FROM THE PATCH. I tried the Patch for about a week and had a constant migraine headache the entire time I was on it. I couldn't stand it anymore and took it off. I, of course starting bleeding the next day but it wouldn't stop for another 3 weeks so I went back in. Turns out I had developed Ovarian Cysts from it.

The Nuvaring didn't work for me either. He could feel it every time we had sex.

I really hate BC (like the idea of taking hormones ya know? not being natural), but I acutally had a lot of good side-effects from it. When I went on BCP, it was not to keep from getting preggo (because, ya know, sex has to happen first...), but to clear up my crazy, and only getting worse, acne-d up skin. When I saw my yearbook picture I couldn't even believe it was me. I had all these awful zits ALL over my face. Now I never, ever break out. I went a week without washing my face at night and I didn't get a single zit. I also get really light periods now, but only when I choose to have periods - I often take my pill packs straight through so that I don't have periods anymore, which I love. I did gain about 10-15 lbs, but you can't see it on me. The only problem is that a lot of my jeans are much too small now, but that's easy enough to fix. I am so thankful for everything that BC has done for me. I used to never go anywhere without at least concealer on my acne, because I had so little self-confidence, and now I will go days without wearing any makeup. Hell, last night we put dish soap in my friend's hot tub (it covered his grass and made his lawn look like it had snowed) and for once I didn't think about how bad I was going to look one my makeup rubbed off - because I didn't even need to wear any!

BC was a huge confidence booster for me, and the best decision that I ever made. I appreciate it so much.

Anyway, I hate hormonal BC, and I am not a candidate for the IUD after having so many children. Guess it's you-know-what time!

I have tried pretty much every hormonal bcp there is, the patch made me pass out in public places, each pill has different side effects that take a while to emerge... Im so over it, but they won't give me an IUD b/c I havent had kids yet

Im looking into barrier methods now, hormones arent worth the trouble for me.

I've never tried the ring, but I just went back on Lo-Estrin after an 8 month hiatus. In 2 weeks, I gained 8 lbs, got 3 headaches, have had cramps since, and have been spotting the whole time!

I am so sick of this stupid hormonal birth control business. I'm interested in an IUD but it is not really a possibility at the moment given that the whole reason for me wanting to do this is to not be on my period when I go travelling this summer, and IUDs can cause spotting for a while, boo.

I just got the nuva ring this week.
the only thing I don't like (so far), is that every so often I can feel it.
