F$^#*^#$#$&(&#(. I just stubbed my little toe

It is bleeding now under the nail and the toe nail doesn't seem very solid. It's hurting like a mo-fo and throbbing.
What should I do? Am I gonna lose the nail?

I have to take my son the baseball practice but I'll be back in about 1/2 hr. HALP!!!

Oooh! I hate when this happens! I lost a nail like this once but another time I didn't lose it. It was black for almost a year.

(FACT: Takes a year for a toe nail to grow all the way out.)

^Its his little toe, it will grow out faster than that.^

I know, its happened to me.
Put a bandaid on it for now, keep it dry for a day or so.

No, I wasn't talking about the pain. The pain is almost gone now. I was worried about getting the toe infected or what not.

If the naill separated from the bed there's really nothing you can do about it and it will fall off. However, if you have bleeding underneath you may need to go to the doc so that they could stick a needle in there to relieve the pressure. Don't be a little puss.

^^

I've had it happen to me too Vis and the only thing you can do is wait for it to grow out. Mine happened to be my big toe and it took a year (thank god I'm a chick and can paint my toenails), but your little toe shouldn't take as long.

Oops! I was just excited that I knew a fact.

Just put a bandaid on it & call it good.

Vis, I know you did not mean the pain.
But an antibiotic ointment will not hurt a fresh wound that could potentially get infected..

you should know that.

WTF? Should I just yank off the mutha fu--er? Geebs, I don't have any pressure on the nail. I'm not being a puss. I just want to know if I can save the nail. Should I not do anything and just wait for the nail to fall off?

Sorry to bump this...

Everything was healing nicely. The nail didn't fall off and everything seemed okay today until I kicked my desk with my toe and it started bleeding again.

The nail feels loose again. Just not a happy camper right now.

You need some steel-toed boots.

I actually used copious amounts of Fake Eyelash Glue/Adhesive to keep my large Toenail on once...but then again I was wearing flip flops all day and not rubbing against the inside of a shoe. Im a clutz and stubbed my toe on a boat when I was barefoot and the nail was cracked in the middle (horizontally) - the glue kept it going until I showered or got it wet...ehhh.

the nail doesn't always immediately fall off.

the new nail will grow from underneath and lift the old nail off. there are multiple ways this can happen. your doctor will not yank the nail for you unless it becomes infected.

i lost both my toenails on my big toes last year and they both came off differently. they also took way less than a year to grow back (i must be eating good vitamins or something).

just ice it. put a band-aid on it and watch for infection. other than that there isn't much else you can do. you gotta stop re-injuring it though.

I wish. I haven't been able to put on shoes for the last week. I've been coming to work in my crocs. I think it got infected a little this week. I have been putting antibiotic ointment for that last few days.
