My breasts grew? How the hell did that happen?

I haven't gained that much weight (although I have gained just a little). There's no chance I'm pregnant. I'm not going to be menstruating anytime soon. Am I retaining water? I don't think so. What the hell is up with my body? Are my hormones overdoing it? I can't think of a good medical reason.

It makes me wonder - I saw a 7 year old child in clinic yesterday who was going through precocious puberty. She had a full set of pubic hair (although no axilla hair) and her breasts are developing. What are they putting in the NY water? (just kidding...I hope...I heard NY water was actually quite good).

Not the water, the food... I'm raising hardcore health food kids.

I have no idea why your breasts are growing. I hope it is a pleasant surprise though!

Yep, human growth hormones in the milk, eggs, meat, etc. is making our children reach puberty earlier than we did, and our mothers did, and so on.

It's the price we're paying for having super-sized cows, chickens, etc.

Early onset puberty increases the chances for cancers of the reproductive organs; it is well-known, yet we keep mass-producing.

7 years old??? Wow. Thankfully my 2 older daughters (10 and 8) are showing no signs yet...

I don't think of why your breasts are growing either...

Question is what AREN'T they putting in it. lol. Treated sewage ends up in there. That I will tell you for sure, because I live an area where some nyc water supply comes from and i know what the local condo development does with their waste. (most of the supply is further upstate though, but imo is not free from pollutants of this nature either. ie when people are looking to get rid of paint thinner, they don't think twice about flushing it into your water).

I agree 100% with hormones in food due to pumping up our animals artificially being the cause of early puberty. I do not drink any-ol' milk from the store (get it delivered actually, from a place that uses no hormones and crap, and does not homogenize), and my chickens makes the eggs themselves on healthy natural feed

I read this news article about a scientific study, where researchers spiked a freshwater lake with small amounts of estrogen and male minnows started producing eggs and demonstrating female reproductive organs. They said the amounts were similar to trace amounts of estrogen found in urine (esp. with advent of the Pill)....weird, eh?
If you google "water estrogen male fish" you'll get a bunch of related links.

Yep, we also get hormone-free milk delivered, buy organic cage-free eggs, etc. It's so sad that public health is secondary to the bottom line.

I was flat as a board until I gained the freshman 15 in college. I swear, I went from an A cup to a C cup in a year! It didn't stop there, either.

Totally agree. It almost seems like a marketing scam; we won't add crap that shouldn't be there anyway, AND we'll charge you for it.

ITA!!!!

Seriously though, there must be something in the NYC water. I went there last month for an audition and a week after we got back, I got my period--a week early! Mine almost never comes early. There have to be some weird hormones in the water there (normally I stay away from tap water, bc Ann Arbor's is kind of shady, so I know whatever it was was from NYC)

I read this book called Skinny Bitch, and after reading it, it's tough to eat milk, eggs and especially meat. It is so disturbing what gets into our food, and how animals are handled.
Then I learned about all of the additives in food and I couldn't believe it. I did quit diet coke (I was up to like 3 a day) and haven't had one for almost 2 months! I feel healthier and am more alert. I am nervous about what will happen to my daughter though. We are making changes a little at a time.

The women that wrote this book are not professionals but former models who are members of PETA.

PETA.org // Lose Weight in '08 With Free Copies of Skinny Bitch and Skinny Bitch in the Kitch!

I wouldn't buy into the propaganda to much although some of the info in the book about food additives is useful.

i know they aren't professionals, and I'm not doing everything they suggest (it would be practically impossible) I seriously had no idea about how the whole animal killing goes (and yes, the authors tug at your heartstrings) I did stop my diet coke addiction and haven't had one in over 2 months, which is shocking since I was drinking so much of it. I feel better, I feel like I can think better, I'm saving $, I'm not bloated- I lost like 5lbs. and a can of coke doesn't even sound good to me anymore. I've even cut WAY back from coffee. I feel that I got something out of the book...

Yes, they do have some good info on food additives but they are a bit fanatical about everything else. This is to be expected from members of PETA though. I loath PETA and their tactics.
