Problems with Tide Detergent

Did anyone have an allergic reaction to Tide? My boyfriend has been to the hospital three times in the past month because of some unknown allergies that popped out of nowhere. He is covered in hives head to toe. Doctors don't know where it came from (). He (the bf) was finally able to narrow it down to pretty much one culprit--new Tide with no dyes and perfumes. The first time he used it, his lip blew up (as in swelled up by A LOT). The next day, his face blew up. He says he started scratching after that, but didn't pay attention to it. He even threw out his bed and matresses because he thought he had bed bugs. Now, he's covered in hives and he's pretty sure it's form this new Tide. He found this page (Tide.com Message Board: Launder - Detergents and Additives: allergeic reaction) and says that most of the responses describe exactly what's happening to him. He’s using aloe and manuka honey to recover.

So, I guess, this thread serves as a heads up about the new Tide.

Tell her to feed the kid Manuka Honey Active Manuka Honey is used for Acid Reflux, Heartburn, Stomach Ulcers, now available in the USA
It has antihistamines, which is like an active ingridient in allergy medication, but honey is alwasy better than nasty meds. I cured my bf's stomach ulcers with this thing too

I am allergic to most laundry detergent so this is no surprise to me. The original tide used to break me out like crazy.

^ ditto. the only thing that i can use is the regular old cheer.

i've found that the dye and perfume free ones are actually the worst for allergic reactions for some reason.

I got this stuff called ECOS at Cotsco - Earth Friendly Products Ecos Laundry Detergent

It's free of all the really nasty shit that's in laundry detergent.

Another thing - you only have to run your machine on a short cycle because it rinses so much better than the ones with sulfates & crap....So you can save water as well.

That is scary!! Thanks for the heads up OP!

I use Woolite for Dark Laundry because it's not as harsh as Tide. Is the ECOS stuff pretty gentle?

I bought that detergent from costco and didn't like it. Didn't get my clothes very clean.

I have the new tide with 2X Ultra for high efficiency washers - clean breeze scent. This is about as new as they come. My mom washed my clothes in Tide when I was boy. I have never gotten hives or rashes. Both my kids have really sensitive skin and they have never had a problem with tide.

Geebs girl, you will get old one day too.
