Paragard IUD

Does anyone have one of these? I am thinking of getting one and would just like to know about anyones experience with it. Most IUDs are not a good choice for those who have not had a child but it seems not to matter with this one. Thanks in advance!

I have Mirena and I have had no complaints. Good choice, IMO!

I had the Mirena and don't laugh, but it went AWOL. It definitely went in but I didn't feel it come out (and I'm sure I would have, okay I've had three kids but I'm not that much of a bucket crutch LOL). Several examinations, internal scans and three months with no further protection but no pregnancy later, the doctors decided it must have come out I wouldn't be surprised if it was still in me somewhere Everyone is different though, apparently most women don't bleed on depo-provera- I had three cycles and bled constantly! I go to quite extraordinary lengths to avoid periods, I HATE them with a passion. At the moment I am on femulen, a 28 day pill taken without a break so I rarely have a period(even though my hubby has had the snip I still use it)

I also have never had children and I had the Mirena IUD and it was a total nightmare. It hurt sooooo bad going in and then I had a period for 6 months straight. My period only stopped because I had it taken out.

That is really scary and I wonder if it was from the hormones. I am thinking of just getting Paragard because there is only copper.

I had the paragard (copper non-hormonal) IUD put in May 07 and bled until I had it removed 12-07. Hurt like hell when put in and never felt a thing when removed. Horrible...don't do it!!!

I'm going to get the Mirena IUD in April. I hope that it will lighten or stop my periods all together. I heard the copper IUD could make periods heavy or last longer.

That is the reason I got it. It didn't do anything to my periods, it actually made them worse.

I think it's trial and error. I had the Mirena and had no problems. The Dr said it would be normal to have a very light period, and then eventually stop, which it did. He also said that there are women, who like Courtney, never stop and in some cases have it non-stop.

It does hurt a bit when it's put in, but it's nothing compared to childbirth. I could totally see how if you haven't had children it would be very painful.

I almost passed out when they put mine in and I am not usually a wimp when it comes to pain. It took the dr a few tries because I have never had children and it was hard to get it past my cervix. Then the cramps were so bad for the next 2 days that I had to stay on the couch with a heating pad.
Like I said, I have never had children so I had nothing to compare it too. If child birth hurts more I might never have kids.

I thought the IUD was worse than childbirth, but I did have an epidural. But I seriously think the contractions leading up to the epi were less painful than that IUD

I have the Mirena (hormone) one and it did hurt like hell going in, but nothing compared to child birth for me! So I have had a child and other than some pretty bad cramping the same day it was put in, it wasn't too bad. My periods have def. lightened but the cramps are a little worse (since childbirth really). My two sisters have the copper one and both hate it. One had periods straight and massive heavy (Supers leaked after 1 hour!!!! ) forever and the other one still gets them but they can be erratic as hell sometimes (and she's had hers in for almost 5 years). The 2nd sis though had a dumb doc cause they put it in at her 6 wk post pardum checkup (and she was still breastfeeding) . Good luck either way!!!!!

no,no,no....don't let this discussion talk you out of it! Take ibuprofen before and you'll be fine. It only takes a few minutes and then it's over. It is not pleasant, but it's worth it. At least it was for me.

I had/have a copper IUD and I didn't feel much at all when they put it in. It was about 6 weeks after the delivery.

On the other hand, when it 'fell' halfway out they asked me if I hadn't felt it and I sure didn't feel anything so perhaps I'm just not sensitive?

You should still try it. I am guessing that when it works it is great. I have issues with all birth control.

^^You know what, I really don't like people digging around up there anyway so I really don't want something up there that may cause problems that require more digging. I have a very hard time with the normal pap smear so I can't imagine this being easy.
