Grumbley Stomachs!

I have the loudest stomach out of everyone that I know and it is SO embarrassing!!! I usually don't mind/notice because im always out and about but when I'm in school I cant stand it! Class is always so quiet and my stomach is grumbling like I'm digesting a small mammal. It seriously sounds like I'm having some sort of gross emergency . I don't understand why its so loud or what to do to make it chill out .

I eat a lot of small meals through out the day... always eat a nice hearty breakfast.. I don't know what the deal is but I wish it would shut up! Does anyone else have SUPER loud tummies or know any tricks to keep it quiet?

My mom's does the same thing, but it's usually right after she eats. We can't figure it out.

haha, one of my old piano teachers had a really grumbly stomach too, it was kinda funny. idk of any solutions but maybe have really filling/fiber-rich snacks and meals (oatmeal with breakfast etc) so that your stomach isn't empty often enough to have that grumbling.

Eat.. yogurt? Perhaps the bacteria inside will help you digest quietly

The noises are from waves of muscle contractions in your intestine called peristalsis, that become audible when they are moving air and liquid along. More fiber means more air.

I think there's probably some stuff that can be prescribed to relax the smooth muscles of the intestine, but that seems rather extreme. maybe try different types of diets and see if you notice any difference.

It's called Borborygmus. Dairy, gluten, and fiber can make it worse so try eliminating them one at a time and see if that helps. Carbonated soda and chewing gum are also major causes in some people since they can cause you to swallow air. Eating slowly and taking small bites can also help.

(asked the BF who's a doc for help, btw!)
