I didn't bring this up earlier just because...

During her annual check up last month, my wife's OBGYN found a lump in my wife's left breast. I freaked out a little as you may have guessed.

So, this week she went in for a mammogram, ultra sounds, and the works. I am really, really relieved to tell you that everything is normal and the lump isn't cancerous.

I just wanted to remind everyone about the importance of visiting your doctor and getting things checked out on a regular basis.

Sorry if I sound too preachy.

Thanks for sharing, John

I had my physical last week and doc found no lumps in my breasts. Whew! I also got the results from my pap today and that was negative as well. I always freak out because even though I know I am most likely "normal", you never know!!! I hate hate hate going to the doctor, but when I read something like this, I'm glad that I do and everyone should!!

I'm so glad to hear that everything checked out okay.

I'm sure that was a little scary though, and thank you for the reminder.

Good thread.

You're never too young to get checked out. I had a scare like that early last year and you can guess that I imagined the worst. Thankfully, everything turned out normal.

^ ita!!

i went thru a very similar scare 2 years ago, but thankfully it just ended up being an enlarged node. it was very frightening, but at the same time a good lesson in taking care of yourself!

Vis, I'm glad your wife is OK. What a scarey thing It just kind of brings us back to reality and reinforces how important it is for EVERYONE to get their early check ups.

Vis, I'm so glad to hear everything checked out OK. I know that must've been very scary for everyone.

It is SO important for all of us to get our yearly checkups. Yes, they suck, but they can save our lives! PLEASE - don't neglect your annual checkups (this goes for men too!)

i think we should start a buddy system here.
ladies, pick a buddy..and then..say-on the 14th of each month--remind your buddy (if she hasn't already reminded you) to do a self breast examination.

(i don't need a buddy because i already do it once a month )

i lost my Aunt Dixie and my Aunt Donna to Breast Cancer.
my oldest brother Bob was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer a while back.

early detection is the key here.
(sorry for the preach..but it sucks when you lose someone to Cancer)

Vis..i'm so happy to hear your news!

^ I like the buddy system idea!

Vis, I am so glad that everything turned out well. It is a great reminder, not preachy at all!

Hi Danyel,

The lump was fibrosis. They are going to check throughly every year from now on.

Actually...ah hem, I try to check my wife every night. I did notice the lump in one of my daily exams several months ago.

I did have my prostate checked and it was no fun. However, I don't think it could be any worse than a gyno exam. I am not having a colonoscopy until they tell me I'm dying.

Oh MR!!!!! No dice.
My cousin had "occasional" blood in his stool....never thought a thing about it because he was sooo young.
My cousin died at the age 28, he was married with 3 kids.
This is not for pity, but a warning sign.

All men should have one done every 5 years, you just dont know, and you should not wait till there is a problem( that is usually because it is too late)

however, although I got a laugh, your routine breast examinations to your wife, I applaud you for

vis have that colonoscopy- it can save your life!

i've had one done, the worst part is the prep (especially when the pharmacy gives you the wrong strength/dose. people sometimes forget that i'm the size of an average 12 yo,not a normal adult lol!) you have no clue what's going on when you have it done, tyvm versed!
