Girls, I need some encouraging words :(

So, I went to the OB/GYN last week for a pre-preg consult, and they took lots of blood and did a pap smear. The girl said they would mail me the results if they were normal, call if they weren't.

Tuesday, my dad said my Granddad was so sick to the point he was discontinuing dialysis and going off all meds except morphine. drs said he had 1-2 weeks to live. So, today, hubby and I set off on the 5 hr drive to see him one last time. Halfway there, dad calls and says Granddad didn't make it thru the night so, we turn around and go home, so we can pack for the funeral and go back tomorrow.

After crying/napping all day, I thought to check my home phone for messages, and they OB/GYN had called and said I needed to call them back about the test results!! BUT, it was after 5:00 so now I have to wait until Monday morning to find out what's wrong with me!!! I am just beside myself - all this is so horrible!!! How am I going to make it to Monday when I can call back -what if something bad is wrong and I can't get preg or something????

try not to think about the bad things. it could just be a precaution and the dr needs to let you know about anything you might be worried about. i'm sorry to hear about your granddad =[

try not to worry about it too much, I've gotten scares from phonecalls like that before but it's usually not what I expect, and I tend to expect the worst!

Sorry to hear about your grandpa... I hope the funeral will comfort you a little, or bring you some closure.

I have had abnormal pap results that turned out to be nothing when they checked the second time. I was sooo freaked out. Maybe he is just calling to advise you of a minor vitamin/mineral deficiency?

First, that's SO inexcusably shitty of that doctor to call you on a Friday and leave you a message like that. Jerkface.

Second, I've had paps come back irregular before and they made me get more tests and everything was fine. Just sometimes the results come back a little funny so they run them again, that's all. I know its hard to say but I wouldn't stress about it all weekend. A lot of people have abnormal paps that turn out to be nothing.

I'm sorry about your grandfather too

Irregular paps are super common. Ask for a thin prep pap if they don't use that already. It's more accurate.

I'm sorry you're dealing with this all at once.

So sorry for your loss.
Everyone who chimed in about the test results is right. Abnormal paps are very common. The doc probably should have left a little more detail in the message, though.

Thanks everyone for the posts

As it turns out, I was too busy w/ family to worry much anyway! I called Monday morning (in between helping my Grandma and the funeral , and it wasn't the pap they were calling about; it was some of the bloodwork.

They detected HSV-1 antibodies in my blood, and wanted to know if I had Herpes!! WHAT?????????? Well, I've NEVER had a cold sore/fever blister/etc..on my mouth or "down there" in my life. So, she said "Well, you don't have it, your body is just fighting it off."

so, I'm like, Where the HELL was I exposed to it? I haven't exposed myself by kissing or drinking after anyone but my hubby. And, I've had one cheating husband and know what that's like, so I'm 100% sure my husband isn't kissing around. BUT, his ex-wife gets them regularly, so I'm wondering if he is a carrier and gave it to me and now I'm a carrier?

Anyone know anything about this??

Oh, BTW, they just wanted to "warn" me about that b/c apparently it's super dangerous to the baby if you get preggo.

A friend of mine who has 3 kids is a carrier of the herpes virus and she just takes that antiviral drug when she is preggo. The virus sits dormant in your nerves until there is stress or something that causes blisters. She has never had a fever blister either. Some people are carriers and never have symptoms. You don't have to "catch" it from someone!

You should not worry about that unless you get a fever blister or something. Your OB/GYN will talk to about that I am sure!!
