Cortisone injections?

Today I had a cortisone/anesthetic mixed injection in my elbow. The PA mentioned briefly that I may feel numbness at the injection site, but about 20 minutes after I started feeling tingly and heat sensations in my hand. After a few more minutes I could not feel anything below the wrist except my pointer finger. My pinky is itching like crazy, but from the INSIDE. The elbow is fine, but now i am concerned about my hand.

Anyone have a similar experience? And how long should this last?

I was in an accident recently and have some shooting pains in the elbow. It has now been about 6 hours, no improvement. Had to call in sick today, since my fingers are all curled up.

pointiest part of the elbow is on the side of the pinky finger if your palm is facing up. this is where the injection was?

and i am guessing the curling of the fingers is your pinky finger and ring finger?

you should get it checked out. there is something up with your ulnar nerve; it runs in the area i am describing and problems with it will produce the issues in the specific fingers that you are describing.

Weird... I've only had my elbows done once but I've had tons of cortisone injections in other joints and I've never had anything like that happen. It's pretty normal to be sore for a few days after the freezing wears off but that doesn't sound normal. I would guess that they tweaked a nerve or you are having a reaction to the meds but I would go get that checked if it doesn't feel better soon

ETA- Come to think about it, my fingers were a little twingy after having my elbows done but not itchy

Yes, it is mostly those 2 fingers. I just called the after-hours service, awaiting the dr's call. I feel like such a wussy!

Thank you for your input!!!!

Doc said it was a damaged Ulnar nerve (think that's right) caused by the needle. It went away suddenly at 4 am, the feeling returning to my 2 fingers actually woke me up. Thank goodness! Thank you for asking Shi
