Menstral Issues =( FHPs for petite women???

Ok, so this is a little embarrassing but I was just wondering if anyone could recommend any feminine hygene products for a petite (slender) women? Between being on depo-provera (a birth control shot) and some health issues I pretty much haven't had a period in the last 10 years. Now I'm getting them again, although very irregularly and it's just horrible (I know, cry me a river ). I know it's good that my system is getting back to normal but it has not been pleasant .

Anyways, to get to the point... I can't seem to find any pads that aren't gigantic I've found some light ones that are ok but I need something, um... heavier duty (in an ultra-slim) that isn't huge. I hate using pads but I've been finding tampons uncomfortable now for some reason so really need to find something that will work. I was just reading the diva cup thread but I'm not sure if something like that would work for me. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unfortunately the thong pad has been discontinued. Why, I have no idea. Pads, esp the heavy duty, are ridiculously large. What about the tampons is uncomfortable? You shouldn't be able to feel them once in...Maybe try a smaller tampon and a pantiliner?

I am actually really surprised that there isn't a brand doing a petite line. I mean, there have them for full figured ladies... why not petites?

I think with the tampons it's more of a dryness issue than anything. Once they are in it's not so bad but I can still feel them. I have a lot of trouble inserting and removing them too . I don't know why because I never used to have a problem with them before. I wonder if I just need to get used to them again.

Why don't you try tampons with a plastic applicator then? You can put a tiny drop of cream/lubricant/water on it to ease the insertion. I agree with BabyJ on tampon + a small pad (like everyday once). I personally use pads only at night, and as I wear thongs, I just get pads with wings (medium priced) and shape them by folding the back of it to fit the thong (if you understand what I mean ). There are loads of medium (not gigantic) pads over here.. but if you are looking for a small but heavy-duty one, I think you shouldn't feel any discomfort with tampons as you are not completely dry then You just need to get hang of putting them in properly again

well if you werent grossed out by the thought.. you can get custom pads made for you (reusable) I have cloth (bamboo velour, ftw) thong pads and everything was custom made and is perfect. (I know it grosses about 99.9999% of the population out, but I've never gotten any negative feedback from say.. those intimate with me... I switched when my son was born and never looked back. Just my 2c, though.

(they really arent gross, and you can just run a small load in the washer.. just like you would anything else.. and they come out clean.. IMO they are actually less gross than say the divacup, which I have a love/hate relationship with)

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Kati, I find that tampons with an applicator never go in correctly for me so I used to always use the kind you just, um... put in manually. I'll keep trying it and maybe I'll get used to it again. Gosh, it feels like hitting puberty all over again

Nicole, that's an interesting idea, but how do they work compared to a traditional pad? I mean, are they as absorbant? I'm not sure about the whole cleaning them thing though That sounds messy

^ I prefer non-applicator ones too, but if you hold the applicator still and under the right angle and if it is in the right depth - it should sit correctly It is funny indeed writing about it.. heheh.. I mastered how to correctly use tampons looong time ago and even taught some grown-up women how to do it when I was only 16

I agree with Kati, I think if you went with a plastic applicator and applied a little lubricant it would be easier for you. I noticed after having my third baby that ummm, things weren't quite as tight as they used to be....if you know what I mean. So I had to really push the applicator up as far as I could reach and actually do a kegal squeeze to make sure it was in secure. Still sometimes I can feel it if I don't have it up quite far enough because the muscles have weakened from having babies so they tend to kinda slide down after a bit. There are so many different brands of Tampons....I would experiment if I were you. I always felt that pads were so unsanitary...just my 2 cents

I love love love my Diva Cup. Like I don't even mind having periods anymore love. Tampons dry me out and pads just feel yucky.. Cloth pads are better but still not as awesome as the Diva Cup. I know there are several different reusable menstrual cups that are similar but slightly different, there is a livejournal community (there must be a joke in here about 2002 calling and wanting their website back) that I've seen recommended a lot for questions/answers/info on different cups. Link!

I have used the OB non-applicator ones before, but after having DD I had to start using Tampax Pearl. The cardboard applicators and the OB ones just don't love me back anymore. I'm sure now that I'm used to tampons again I could use them, but in the beginning after getting my period back I could only handle the plastic.
Try getting the Tampax Pearl Lites and try them out first, then maybe switch to regulars or whatever size you need. They are my favorite tampon. In all seriousness though, they really are IMO. The best applicator, the best shape, and the actual tampon is the easiest to remove if you're having dryness issues. Sorry this is TMI, but if you don't "use" the whole thing and are having dry issues during removal, the Pearl ones seem to come out the most comfortably.

Okay end TMI from me now.

I used to use the Diva Cup but once I got my IUD I couldn't anymore. Now I will only use the Always Infinity. They are super thin, but could absorb the Nile if they had to. Seriously, it's a great product!

can you not use the diva cup if you have an IUD? what about tampons? I had never even thought of that potential issue...

I'm guessing the IUD's string may be the reason you can't use any internal protection.

it makes sense, I'm just surprised it had never come up in previous debates for/against IUDs (personally, I would consider having to wear pads a major con)

If I get a period, I use tampons and I have an IUD but I do remember reading on the Diva Cup site that you can't use it with an IUD. I'm on my 2nd IUD and have never been told I can't use internal protection (tampons) with it.

Recently, I've started using panty liners to get me through my periods. I really like the new Kotex U ones, it doesn't even feel like anything is there and I feel cleaner since I change it pretty much every time I use the restroom. Flow hasn't been much of an issue for me since I do change it so frequently. They wrap around thongs pretty easily as well. I'd definitely recommend it. The giant diapery pads drive me insane also. I stopped using tampons too since for some reason I was able to feel them even if I inserted them right, it was super uncomfortable. They dried me out too. The Playtex Sport ones had the easiest application imo. They have a small plastic applicator and are thinner than many of the other ones I've tried. I'm not sure if they're still available anymore but they also had a slim version too. I'd definitely recommend trying an applicator though, I've never been able to get one of the manual ones up there.

I've been reading a lot more about the diva cups and the other brands and I'm thinking I might give it a try when I get my next one. I figure it's worth a shot even if it's not that comfortable since at least it won't dry me out like tampons do. At this rate that won't be unill late fall but I am totally ok with that

Katty, it sounds like you have the same issues I do. I can pretty much always feel the tampons even when they are in correctly. That's pretty much what I've been doing... just using lights and changing them often. It's a bit of a PIA though.

Yeah it definitely is. I put up with it since it's the most comfortable way I've found to get through my period. I get horrible cramps.

I always had pretty good luck with these Always Slender. Though I wouldn't recommend sleeping in them. They just aren't long enough in the back. They always absorbed a ton for me.
