Foot cramp?

Just wondering if that's what this was, and if anyone else has experienced it. I was standing in my kitchen y'day when I got this horrid pain on the outside of my right foot. It was so bad I could hardly put any weight on it. It would go away and then come back a few minutes later. Kept happening for probably 1/2 hour or so. I've had foot cramps before, in the soles of my feet, but I've never had anything like this. Even today it still hurts, though not nearly as bad.

I get foot cramps if I hold my foot a certain way, like resting my feet on my tippy toes or driving. I'm not sure why they happen, I always associated it with not getting enough vitamins/minerals. I also think wearing high heels a lot was wearing my feet out.

If they get to be too much you might want to go see a massage therapist. It is very likely that the problem is in your lower legs. You might be able to do it yourself, but itís easier to have a knowledgeable MT take care of it. From this pic here you can kind of tell how the leg muscles run and where they connect to the foot.

Yahoo! Image Detail for - http://akaryuterra.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/leg-muscles-anatomy.jpg

Start at the top of where the muscles begin, use both thumbs with deep pressure and slide them down as many times as you can. Try to go slow and put lots of pressure. Just follow the different muscles down and/or go across them. I wish I could explain it better.

I had a bad case of plantar fasciitis with heel pain and the whole works. My MT found the problem in my lower leg muscles and the pain went away the very next day. This is something that I had been dealing with for months. Turned out I had a trigger point there. I am a MT, but the work was too painful for me to do myself. Itís much easier to have someone else hurt you
.

If you can find someone that does real reflexology (the kind that hurts) it will clear it up in no time. It can be painful, but its a lot better than getting cramps all the time. In my experience I have found that Asians or those that have been trained by Asians are the only ones that practice true reflexology. Most of the time you just find people who do "fluff and buff".

Glad I saw this bumped thread. I thought I was the only one! My main issue is toe cramping. Its horrifying. So painful it takes my breath away and quite frankly hideous looking! And I have yet to find someone who doesn't look @ me like a crazy person when i describe it. (Usually) my 2nd to last or middle toe(s) will go crazy and contract and bend in a weird unnatural way on its own and it freaks me out! EXTREME PAIN.

Ive been told to eat bananas and take my vitamins (no diff.), I tried to see if it had to do with heels vs. flats (did not lead to any conclusion). I've had it happen on days where ive drank PLENTY of water...so IDK...maybe it does have to do with my legs! I have issues with very tight hip muscles and bad knees...my lower half is out of whack!

I have also experienced the crazy cramps @ arch (charlie horse?) but that has always bc I stretched out too far on my tippy toes or something...the toes happen randomly so its so bizarre. I could be working out, sitting on the couch, or (the worst of the bunch) getting busy. Not a fun time when that happens

Glad im not alone and I will try the massage

i get foot cramp sometimes, the most of reasons is having cold in arch of my feet or the soles of feet...it is really so terrible..

i really can not move one step....just massage the arch to ease the pain
, after a while...will be well...

OMG me too! I saw this thread and was like FOOT CRAMP OMG LIKE ME?! Then I read the first replies and I was sad but then saw Trishy and Jessica's replies. MY TOES are absolutely horrifying when they cramp as well, they get stuck in a frankenstein-like position and won't go back - I literally have to massage my toe back into place.

I'm not sure what triggers mine but sometimes when I stretch out my food it happens to my toes. I was on the swim team from when I was 8 until I was 13. maybe swimming started it?

OMG yes! I will try to massage mine back into place too! Sometimes the pain is so intense from the toe warping that the pain radiates up that toe's entire tendon(?) that its attached to on the top of my foot. God its painful. POOR US It is sort of ironic too that we all did swimming...

This is also a kind of weird question but do you guys have really skinny feet with longish toes? Or did you start wearing heels at a young age (I started when I was 13)? I'm trying to find some other commonalities between our freak feet lol.

LOL omg this is too funny. Trishy: YES with the whole radiating and I too have to massage it out or flex it an opposite way to try to "counter act" it.
Cielo: I don't have really skinny feet but I do have longish toes (at least IMO) I don't remember when I first wore heels though I started swimming from age 3 - 12 then started up again 15 and then randomly nowadays. I did take ballet & gymnastics for a teensy bit when I was younger but my foot always cramped up so I couldn't take it anymore LOL

Well I def. dont have a wide foot. I am def. more on the thin foot side but not super narrow. My toes are of normal length I think? I can take a pic when I get home to compare! I cant remember the exact age i wore heels, but I was a fashionista from as young as I can remember so Im sure i had little heels at a very young age

My most recent cramp incident was about 2 weeks ago when I was in an ab class at the gym....have no idea why but when i was doing bicycle crunches BAM! I had to stop immediately, tear my sneaker off and squeeze my foot for dear life for about 10 mins straight! The instructor was like OMG ARE YOU OK?!?! Not normal

We are totally NOT normal! I haven't ever been to the doctor about it though. I just kinda think they would be like wtf are you talking about and then I would have to show them and of course it wouldn't work while I was there.

I am literally LOL'ing. I love our conversation.

My feet are skinny and I have long toes (IMO). I always kind of thought it had something to do with my toes. lol

This is literally hilarious! I am suprisingly overjoyed to have found TWO ladies with my problem!! i think we could start our own specific toe cramp section! I have to say I don't eat particularly healthy, so I always thought that prob had something to do with it.

Totally agree with the Dr. thing...OF COURSE it would never happen when we WANTED it to...and i think if I describe it the would be like "oh yeah, its just a cramp/charlie horse" but then have nothing helpful to say LOL But ur right Jess, prob a podiatrsit should be who we are talkign to about it! I actually have been meaning to see a podiatrist...maybe I should actually do it!

I go through bouts of being super healthy and super unhealthy. I just told my boyfriend about this and he said "you guys are dumb, that's a super common thing." WHAT?! I have never heard of anyone (let alone him) having frankenstein feet. he's so dumb

What about your arches? I have really high arches. I'm bored so I'm going to ask lots of dumb detective questions and pretend I'm a foot doctor so we can get to the bottom of this.

! Umm.. I don't think my arches are particularly high, I think they're kinda low, but I don't have flat feet.

Ive always felt I have slightly high arches...although I have not gotten a professional opinion LOL But when I wear high heels, you can see my curve fo the arch usually peeking up out of the shoe which IMO meant they are high

And Tell ur BF is it NOT super COMMON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG I just googled foot cramps toes and I was looking at Google images and found a foot picture that KINDA looked like mine when they cramp up (PS: these are quite possibly the ugliest feet ever):

Google Image Result for http://0.tqn.com/d/foothealth/1/0/P/1/-/-/SullivansSign.jpg

ETA: I'm reading about this at it says it commonly affects women ages 30-50. We are too young for this shiz lol. I was wonder if this is it, what do you guys think??

LOL OKAY SO I just decided to try to induce this cramping on my foot. AND.... my middle toe gets REALLY tight like the muscle that connects it to my foot can be seen protruding? kinda like when those super crazy body builders have their veins visible, it looks like that. and then its leaning very close to the ring toe and when i massage the area where my ring & pinky toe are it hurts there.. AHHA. and its weird because when I flex my foot up its okay, but once I point my toes, it tenses/flexes up again..

OK, that is an ugly hairy foot but YESSSSS Exactly what happens to us!!!!! Some sort of proof!!

30-50?!?! We are def. beyond our years for toe cramping status!!

Jess - you induced it?!?! I suppose I could try that if I needed to show someone but IDK if Id have the balls to do it on purpose!!! Its like self torture!!!

And Jess your description was so spot on, I had a flashback to my last episode while reading...still can't believe you forced it upon yourself! That was a brave thing to do so that you could give us the play by play!!

Double post, but I just read the article Cielo posted (at first i just looked at the pic!) .... very interesting, maybe this is what the cause is?!? I mean its in the exact right spot of our issue....often due to poor fitting shoes?!??! OH NOS! I may be culprit of this...i def have worn shoes that have looked WAY better than they felt...sometimes thinking I might die if I kept them on any longer...but i mean what woman hasnt tortured themselves for fashion?!?!

"Other causes of injury to the nerve may include simply having an incorrect walking style or an awkward foot structure, such as overpronation (foot rolls inward), hypermobility (too much motion), cavo varus (high arch foot) and excessive dorsiflexion (toes bend upward) of the toes. "

Ladies, I say we all go to a podiatrist, and see how they diagnose us and compare!

Although I do no like the "prevention" tactic "AVOID WEARING HIGH HEELS"
