Lady Comp birth control

Ladies, this is the coolest thing I just found. It's a computer that memorizes your cycle via your basal temp taken each morning, and it tells you which days you are ovulating, which days are iffy and which days you are not fertile. It is 99.3% effective against unwanted pregnancy. So cool! It is an expensive upfront expense, but they offer financing after a down payment, and it lasts for years. I am going to try this, as I don't tolerate hormonal birth control well--has anyone else used this or seen it before? It's made in Germany, and very popular in Europe from what I understand.

Natural Methods :: Natural Birth Control, 99.3% Effective with Lady-Comp & Baby-Comp

its not really effective, imo. i like to read articles because the "stats" they give you are very biased. here is their info from their main study:
Calculating the cumulative pregnancy rates by life-table analysis, it was found that, after about one year of exposure, the probability of an unintended pregnancy was 5.3% (0.053), after 2 years it was 6.8% (0.068) and after about 3 years of exposure it was 8.2% (0.082). The mean length of the identified fertile period was 14.3 days with a standard deviation of 4.6 days in all cycles reported.

^ Have you tried it? Or known anyone who has? I would think that effectiveness is greatly determined by correct usage. Are women reporting lower effectiveness if they are using it on yellow days? Are they taking their basal temp consistently, same time each day, before rising, brushing teeth, etc?

Interesting. I'm curious to know if anyone has used it.

I don't think I'd try it personally, since I normally ovulated a couple weeks after my period, but with my last pregnancy, I got preggo the day after my period ended. So even if the computer knows how you are "normally" there's always the chance that something weird happens with your cycle.

three words:

i'd be pregnant.

even though i'm on a very stable 28-day cycle, i seem to get pregnant no matter what.

this may work for some, but not me.

it wouldn't work for me.
it's a pretty irresponsible form of bc imo. you never know for sure what your body is going to do.

Just a suggestion, but the copper iud is non-hormonal, and like 99.7% effective.

I just think no one's body will run like clockwork all the time. Nature's errors do occur even if you're doing everything correctly.

eta: if you're okay with an unexpected pregnancy, then it may be worth a try for you.

Does that mean that it identifies on average half of your cycle as fertile? From a contraceptive perspective that is conservative (I thought it was more like ~5 days/month). Though that leaves you with half of your cycle abstinent.

I would be afraid of any variant of the rhythm method though.

i would just like to say that this is the most retarded method of birth control ever invented. that is all.

keep in mind that there are virtually no at home thermometers that are consistent and accurate enough to detect such a tiny temperature change.

It works if you are very regular. I have used it for 5 years with no pregnancies, but we are old enough to be willing to completely abstain on the risky days.

For me, i have to abstain from day 9 - day 17, so 8 days.

I also used the same method to get pregnant, knowing which days were most likely to produce a baby. I got pg the first month trying

Also, you can't use an illness thermometer, you have to buy a special basal body thermometer that is designed for this (about $10 when I got mine 6 years ago). You have to take the temp at the same time each day, immediately at wake up before you pee. But, once you learn the signs, you dont' have to temp at all. I haven't temp'd for 4 years.

Amazon.com: Taking Charge of Your Fertility: The Definitive Guide to Natural Birth Control, Pregnancy Achievement, and Reproductive Health (Revised Edition) (9780060937645): Toni Weschler: Books

This book should be read from cover to cover before attempting. It isn't a method for everyone, but it can work for certain people. I for one, love, being hormone free (well, except for the 2 days of PMS I get each month, LOL)

This reminds me of Jasmin's thread on Fertility Awareness.

She has a son now.

Like I said, you can use it to GET pg or to avoid but if you want ot use it to avoid, you absolutely must be extremely responsible.

You can NEVER, EVER, EVER get "carried away" at the wrong time. There is no way I am even considering a condom if I know I am ovulating at the time. One slip or break and whammo, Dawn is knocked up (I ovulate like a clock on day 15 of my cycle)

We had been together for 6 years and had a kid (aka libido killer) before ever attempting this.

there is no way I would use this method in a new relationship. I also still go on the pill if there is a special holiday or vacation at the wrong time where I might want to get carried away.
