Diva Cup

Has anyone tried one of these? I'm thinking of getting one because of the heavy flow and all the waste associated with pads and tampons.

i've looked into it as well; i think there was a thread on this before, but i'd be interested to see if anyone has tried it.

i'm very interested if women with kids have used it successfully too.

Here is a link to a great resource about cups.

I use the lunette cup, and it is my favourite. The diva cup was too long so I could not use it at all. I've previously used the keeper and it was okay, but lunette is better.

+1, I got the size they recommended for women who have had a kid and it didnt fit! It was too big. ugh (divacup) it annoyed me to no end, so I switched..

I like that the Lunette has a little stub to grab onto. Otherwise it looks like it would be difficult to get out

at first? yes. just like you would with a tampon, but you quickly get used to it (unless you get the wrong size.. then you know! ;))

I have used "Instead" (the disposable cups)
http://www.softcup.com/
Of course, those don't have the environmental benefits.

For me, they seemed scary to put in, since the ring seemed large, but you don't really feel them, at least not more than a tampon.

I'm so glad you started this thread, Char! I've looked into these before, but have never taken the plunge. I might try the Instead cups cowgirl mentioned to get more used to the idea...

ETA: The Instead website says you can use them during sex... this may be a TMI question, but has anyone tried this?

Well, I think the point of the cup/period combo for sex is to make it less messy, but it seems like it might be more awkward than the messiness to wear a cup during that. Plus, I would fear it would leak or explode on impact.

I've never personally used one, so this is just my thoughts on the whole thing. I tried the Instead once for my period, but wasn't very comfortable.

They are less noticeable than tampons when they are in properly and the right size. (Lunette is shorter which is why it is more comfortable - if it is too long, you can always feel it). I didn't feel that the instead was very secure compared to the reusable cups.

I've never heard of these before! I have quite a heavy flow and as a double protection the first 3 days or so, I always do both tampon and pad. So the idea that these cups can hold more intrigues me, but I think if I did look into these, I would look into the Soft Cups.. I can't imagine emptying it out and having to wash it that is just way too putting off for me to deal with.

I was thinking about the emptying and washing of the cup. It wouldn't be a big deal at home but out in public you would definitely need a private bathroom...which I don't even have at work.

Those instead sound useful for other reasons

^ wonder what "other reasons" you're talking about! can't say I wasn't intrigued either although I make it a rule not to do so when I'm on my period but maybe this would change that

hmmm...high flow days are definitely no nos, but other days are fine for me. I don't think having a cup in there would make a difference on light days.

now this thread is way tmi.

yeah, the whole emptying and cleaning out the cup would give me the ewwwies!!! also, i would be worried about it spilling while i was taking it out??? is that a problem for the the girls who have used it??

and the sex while on the flow is a no go for me either!!! that gives me the ewwies too!!

boys seem not to care about anything though when their ding-a-ling is at salute!! or at least my boy that is!!
