For those with kids 7+ - bedwetting ?'s

Please share your experiences with your kids and bedwetting. I have three boys 11, 6 & 5. They all still wear pull-ups at night. Their pediatrician says alarms won't work, meds might, but they should grow out of it. I'm really concerned that they never will grow out of it and that I should try SOMETHING. The 11 year old especially troubles me as it is going to inhibit his social life and class trips, etc.

Did your child(ren) just stopped bedwetting or needing pull=ups at night?
Did you do anything to "train" them? Alarms, meds, anything?
What age did they stop?

Thanks!

I wish I could help you, but we are going through the same thing with our 11 yo son. Still wears pull ups at night; sometimes he will stay dry, but it's about 50/50.

Tried meds, but wasn't comfortable with adding more meds just to make him stop wetting the bed. Bed alarms, I'm not sure about because we haven't tried that. We just really hope that he quits wetting at night. It has gotten better, because it's now about half the time he's wet, half the time he's dry in the morning.

We try to cut him off from drinking about 2 hours before bed and it does help. An alarm clock in your kids' room might help; we did that when he was wetting nightly. Sometimes he'd sleep right through it though and I'd have to wake him up. Might be worth a try.

Well, I don't have experience with this, but my husband has said that he had the same problem as a kid. He says that the only thing that cured him after trying everything was something like a men's "kegel excersize". He says he learned to do it by starting and stopping peeing every time he went to the bathroom. I guess it strengthened his muscles enough to where he could hold it through the night. I'm not sure if this will help but I guess it's worth a try. My husband swears that is the only thing that helped him conquer it. Anyway, good luck!

Did anyone ever happen to see a TV movie years ago an autobiography of Michael Landon?
He became a runner because he wet the bed and his mother used to hang his sheet out the window of the house and he had to run home to get there before the bus came by and all the kids on the bus saw it.

He was preteen at least and maybe older.
Cruel mother but saying this to say it seems to be more common with boys, and they DO sometimes do it into their early teens.

This is a great idea that I've never heard before. I will start him on it today and let you know how it goes.

Christina - we feel the same way about meds. With the alarms, my husband is against them because he wants the kid to get a good nights sleep. I'm glad to hear he's making progress though. My son has only had a couple of dry nights all year.

lulz the guy just wanted to give us some input about when he stopped wetting the bed.

I was just considering wetting my bed last night. Then I thought why would I want to sleep on something after I poured water all over it. Seems like it would be uncomfortable and I would probably get a rash.

loll I was a late bedwetter! laughable now looking back, but at the time it was killler. Nothing worked except for the meds and a "maturing" bladder.
