Sore Knees!!!

My knees in the past year have been really bad. They hurt constantly for a few days at a time and then the pain will subside for a little bit. I have to sit with my legs straight out sometimes because bending them hurts so much. does anyone else get knee pain? and if so how do you "soothe" them?

have you been checked by a doctor?

i don't know much about your symptoms but symmetric joint pain is a symptom of rheumatoid arthritis.

is the pain more prevalent in the mornings?

no, they likely will not take xrays. you should probably go see a doctor though, especially since it's free.

I use to have knee problems {I messed the left one really bad playing football} to the point where I would actually have to use a cane sometimes. Anyways, I did get x-rays after a while and it showed that it was healed completely but it still hurts every now & then, Gloucosamine really works wonders, I use a mix of pills that I get @GNC called Fast Flex.

I'm sorry that doesn't make sense...my head/brain hamster is running on it's last leg, needs rest.

But I hope nothing major is wrong, but you should get it checked, bring someone with you, if you get scared, make the motion so that your friend can yell for you, or with you...I'll just stop talking right now..

The fact that it is both sides and the intermittent flares is concerning to me as well. I would visit the Dr.

OHIP pays for doctor visits. that's fairly obvious though, so we are likely talking about different things.

^ hahaha still waiting...

thanks for the concerns guys... i'm thinking a trip to the doc might be a good idea too. i'm just terrified he's going to tell me i need surgury or something bad, which to me is like... well, i'd rather die than go to a hospital. :\ i'll try to get up the courage during the next pain attack.

1. Doctor check first.
Is there anything that you're doing that worsens the pain?

2. Glucosamine and MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) saved my runner knees. Research is plenty (Europe and States) and it's in its favor.

^ I think the pain mostly comes from sitting at a desk all day. My work is my life, i work from home and am constantly sitting on the computer... i think all the sitting causes it... but i'm not 100% sure. I don't know what Glucosamine is ... ?

I would see a dr. before self-medicating with glucosamine (which can work well for minor joint issues)...you want to know if you need to do something else to keep the condition from worsening.
I ran on stress fractures for a couple of years and almost had to wear walking casts as a result (and i did have to quit running for a while).

the two that were mentioned are just pills {that you can find at most grocery/supermarket stores}that are filled with some pill substance stuff that does in fact help your joints. It's like really cool. On a molecular level.

heh heh...Why do I even post? My brain is like that of a 7yr old ;-/

I agree to go to the doctor. I would check with the doctor or a specialist to see if orthotics might help. I get joint pain from wearing unsupportive shoes (either flats or heels, but sneakers/flats with arch support are okay) because I have flat feet, and people with over-arched feet often get that too.

Also, have you noticed a trend with the weather? I have a messed up hip, and it hurts when it's rainy/damp/humid.

I have flat feet too, and if I walk in certain shoes for too long, my knees start to hurt. I second the orthotics suggestion. (One of my legs is 1/4 inch longer than the other, so that's why my knees hurt too.)

I know what you're experiencing - it also took me a while - but eventually I found my way to an orthopedic doctor - he took x-ray and gave me the news that I have significant arthritis in both knees. I advise seeing an Orthopedic doctor soon - the dr. can let you know what to do and not to do - ie. for me I can only do low impact exercise - swim, bike or elipticle - my dr. doesn't even want me to walk for exercise...

I had the same problems, and I went to the doctor and he told me that he thinks I have patellar subluxation

Patellar Subluxation - Kneecap Dislocation

and basically my kneecap just shifts completely out of place and hurts like hell. It eventually shifts itself back in, but often not until a day or two later. Actually on Friday it was AWFUL. I could actually see the difference in my knees and my right kneecap was way more towards the inside of my leg and it was swollen and I could hardly walk. It was shifted back in by the next day, but the day with it sucked. Doc told me it's probably because the muscles around my knee aren't strong enough to keep it in place so he gave me exercises to do to strengthen my muscles right around my knees but it still happens a lot.

Needless to say, go see your doctor! Knee pain sucks!
