Anyone had interdigital neuroma?

I'm taking human physiology this term and wouldn't you know, my professor was able to tell me exactly whats wrong with my foot after talking to me for 5 minutes, and the foot doctor couldn't even do that

Anyways, my professor said there is damage to some nerve and its swollen because thats how it heals, and so thats what is bothering me. He said I could try physical therapy or another option was to have surgery on my foot and have the particular nerve snipped or removed.

I probably won't be able to start physical therapy or have surgery until this summer so I have time to find out and decide. So I am just wondering if anyone has had any type of physical therapy or surgery on their foot of any kind and how did it go?

Thanks!

I've had foot surgery done on both my feet, not at the same time of course. I have no arches and had problems with bunions, etc. It ended up being 4 different incisions. Yours might not be as extensive as mine was, but I was in and out of the hospital on the same day. I had to take a week off of work and keep my foot elevated at all times, crutches for about few weeks and a walking cast for a couple of months after that.

It wasn't that big of a hassle, IMO. Being on crutches was kind of a pain and keep in mind that depending on what foot you have done, you might not be able to drive for a while. Also, you kind of don't realize this, but since your foot is at the bottom of your body, all the blood rushes there and I really had to have my foot elevated a lot, even when I was in the walking cast. But it was manageble.

So, it was definitely worth it, in my case. Good luck with whatever you decide to do, and keep us posted!

Thanks, yeah I know all about boots and crutches. It took me like 2 weeks to get used to walking with that boot on. Luckily its my left foot so I'm good for driving.

I just hope physical therapy works so I don't have to get surgery!

This is OT and aimed at Starlight's post... But I need to have foot surgery on both feet (for painful bunions and club feet, and possibly lengthening achieles tendon) and have been putting it off for years because of school. I saw that you are also in washington and am wonderin where you got your surgery at, or more importantly who was the surgeon. I have been looking for a good referal! If you don't mind PMing me that would be awesome!

Ok I'm bumping this up cuz I found out the name of what my professor thinks I have.

Interdigital neuroma. I looked up symptoms online and all but one apply to me. So I'm just wondering if anyone has had this before (long shot I know) or know anyone who has, and what you or the other person did to fix it?

Thanks!

I saw a new foot doctor yesterday and he diagnosed me with interdigital neuroma. I got a shoe insert, which is nice, but he said I can only swim as exercise, which sucks cuz I want to run and the university swim class doesn't work with my schedule...

My other option are cortisone shots which I do NOT want to do. My 3rd option is surgery which I really wanted as a last resort, but it seems like it would be the only way to 100% get rid of this swollen nerve. I would lose feeling in my 3rd and 4th toe.

I really need to weigh my options, and just wondering if anyone else has had this (apparently its fairly common). I have a feeling this neuroma is affecting other parts of my foot that hurt, so if I get rid of the nerve, all the other pain will go away.

It just sucks because I really really want to exercise but it kills my foot..
