Large Boobs and Jackets HELPzors!

I wasn't sure where to put this LOL. I thought about GD but figured it'd get a ton of interest but not so much help there LOL.

Anyway, I am having a hell of a time finding brands with suit jackets that fit larger boobs (D/DD). I've tried alterations down from a size 12ish and then have a lot taken out in the middle and waist but they never seem to look right in the end and it's very expensive for results I don't usually like at all. Does anyone have any ideas for brands that tend to run large in the chest but still small in the waist? Any help would be super super appreciated.

I have the exact same problem. If your looking for work wear Tahari has some good stuff and I have always had luck with them. Theory is good too if you look for their items with a little stretch in them. They run big enough where the alterations if they are needed aren't too bad. I wear a 00 or 0 on bottom and a 6-8 top and a small nip and tuck in the waist and things usually look OK. When Calvin Klein collection was around ( not CK) that was a really good choice. I could go down to a 4 so usually not alts were called for. A lot of the store private label items ( Bloomies, Macy's ect.) run a bit larger breast wise too cause they are geared more to women and not so much Juniors or Misses. I try to look for stuff with stretch and 1 or 2 button type jackets where they basically button under the breast instead of over. Those always look great and again no alts needed.

I wish I had that problem! Another brand you might look into is Rebecca Taylor...I tried on one of their blazers and thought it was really cute, and it fit well in the waist but the boob area was waaaay too big for me (size 4)

Elie Tahari has great suit pieces, as does Theory.

If you really want good fit, you should tailor them.
Suiting is about great fit.

Or a breast reduction...

LOL I think my SO would die. I don't think they're large enough to qualify anyway since they don't cause any pain or discomfort, just kinda mess up the fit of stuff.

Thanks for all the brand suggestions. I know I'm going to have to tailor it, no worries, sometimes stuff is just so far off that even a tailor can't quite make it look right so I'm trying to get closer before I take it there.

You can buy a lot of expensive suit jackets and alterations for the cost of a breast reduction!

I don't have a lot of experience with suits so I don't have any great advice, but I'd keep an eye out for classic vintage pieces that are still in good shape.

A good tailor really should be able to make the jacket fit you well.

If you don't use one already, I would suggest a mens suiting tailor.
I have had better experience with jackets and suiting being tailored with a mens tailor than with a seamstress that does alterations.

Just sayin

I've never tried a menswear tailor .. hmm that might be a good idea! I use a regular seamstress right now but think I will try it next time!

I have found some cute suit pants and jackets at NY&CO. I am a D as well, but my waist is bigger (31 in jeans) so it may not be as big of a proportion issue.

They have great sales though...if you signed up for their email list you'll get $30 off $60 purchase and stuff like that.

IDK, but I have the exact same problem, girl. I would be an XS on top if not for my chest, I need tops that are an M in the boob and a S/XS everywhere else!

Ditto, I have D's but a smaller waist, so it really is a pain in the ass. Hence why I hardly ever wear dresses because its so hard to find one that fits right.

I can sometimes find jackets to fit me in the boobs at Ann Taylor but its really hard sometimes. Its much better now since I had a breast reduction but sometimes still can be a problem. I used to not be able to wear dresses without having them altered.

I forgot to add that I do buy Gianni Bini jackets at Dillards that do fit me in the waist and the boobs.

I also have this problem. It may seem like a shitty brand but Kasper suits seem to fit me "ok" along with Tahari seperates. Express will not close around my bust even in the 12. My waist is no where near "small" but my bust is def. bigger than my waist andmy shoulders are wide as well. so I am also a tough fit.

ETA: Theory armholes are too small for me and too small throughout the chest area.

Trying to think of other brands...I always have to have them tailored. That's why I own about 3 suits. Eh.

gah I feel your pain! To make matters worse, I need "talls" on top and "regulars" on bottom. I actually got a suit that fit really well at banana republic. shocked the crap out of me, but I LOVE that suit to bits and it matches all of my black BR dress pants. Of course its too effing hot in TX to wear a suit for more than 2 months, so I dont try too hard to get jackets that fit... but ID LOVE to wear a vest and it not look ridiculous. If youre not opposed to it, find a bra thats concealing.. I have one that makes them look like big B's (they are DDs, fwiw) and thats impressive.. it helps with some shirts and sweaters that I love..

^ eek, I can imagine how that does make things quite a bit more complicated. mine are no where near DD's , but it's a little constricting for me to wear some tops that have no or very little stretch to them. everywhere fits fine, but I get up to the boobs and the zipper will not zip/buttons will not button.. but if it's stretchy, it's usually okay
I love suit pieces from BR too
