Anyone on Zoloft?

Care to discuss?
I am on Zoloft for panic/anxiety. Anyone have memory loss or confusion on Zoloft or Setraline?
Thanks!
Kristina

I was on that crap for six weeks. It messed me up worse the my damn OCD. It made me sick, and I had more anxiety. I did lose sense of time, and forgot shit easy.
I dumped that shit, I'd rather have my OCD.

It used to make me like a complete zombie and i had no appetite. I was on it for anger problems and to control my temper. I stopped taking it when i broke up with the real problem.

I've been on Zoloft for a while. Say, over a year. It has helped with my panic, but lately I have lost my sense of time and I forget things. But that has just been lately. Maybe in the past few months. I'd LOVE to get off of it, but I think my anxiety and panic was SO hard to live with. Especially now that I know how nice it feels to NOT panic all the time.

GOOD FOR YOU!!! I was also diagnosed with PTSD after an AWFUL relationship. And I am soooooo thankful my 'big' problem is gone as well.

absolutely none at all
i can't remember the dosage i took but i remember when i decided to stop taking it.. i weaned myself off it it-halfing the dosage for a week, then one quarter..then completely off.
the one and only side effect i had while taking it, was right at first...it gave me diarrhea and i lost some weight. but this went away after my body got used to it.

I've been on Celexa for 4 1/2 years now. I know it's not Zoloft but they are all pretty much the same but people have different reactions to them. The side effects you are describing are not normal and I would suggest getting off of it and trying something new. Also, exercise and diet are the number one things to get rid of anxiety. It helps for me!

Good luck!

I would ask for something that you dont have to take every single day, but take only when you feel anxiety coming on. Make sure if you do get off of the zoloft not to quit cold turkey. I've heard of people doing that and had bad experiences. I still get panic attacks sometimes and when i do i either take a valium or just try to shut my eyes and breathe.

Thanks Frisky I did learn 'breathing' exercies which I try to use if I am getting panicky.
Right after I posted this thread, I tried to cut myself down to 50mgs a day (instead of 100) and within four days all I could think about was dying! (Not as in suicide) But I just kept thinking I COULD die. It was awful and now I am back on 100mgs.
I really shouldn't have done that. I felt worse than I did before I started on Zo.
And Plastic, my doc tried me on Celexia, but I put on weight and that made me more panicky, so he quickly put me on Zo.
Thank you all for posting. Sometimes it feels like it is hard to talk to anyone about my meds. I fear they might think I am crazy or something. Thank you for not judging
Love
Kris

I was on Zoloft and Lexapro at different times, I had different side effects to each. I'm currrently on Effexor and that works great for me. Everyone reacts differently to medication, especially psych meds, so a lot of times it's simply trial and error.

Hi Kris, I too was on Zoloft for a bit and it made me kinda shaky and a lot more anxious too. My doc switched me over to Paxil which was better for me. Everyone is different! I know it is hard to talk about , some people just brush it off like it's no big deal. Or they say that you are doing it to yourself! It seems like there are a lot of people here who will listen, myself included! Don't change your dosage without your doc!

I used to have it really horrible anxiety, sometimes it flares up, but most of the time I feel good. But it was so bad for awhile, that all I could think about was that I was going to die. I'm kind of a hypochondriac. I'm on Buspar now, it's the only drug approved for just anxiety, rather than depression as well. I took zoloft for awhile and felt really weird, and when I switched to this, it was like a godsend. Anyway, I know how you feel, and I hope you find something that works well for you

Does anybody know how long you can be on psych drugs? I've been on Celexa for 4 1/2 years almost. I was only on 10, now I am on 5 mgs. I am not currently seeing a doctor for it. I heard you can stay on these medications for the rest of your life. Anybody know? How long have you all been on your medications?

I think you can be on them as long as you need to be, but they obviously don't have a lot of information on the impact of taking the newer psych drugs for 30+ years.

^^^ Yes, for some people, the benefits outweigh possible side effects.

I think it's an absolute waste to be on them and not doing every thing you can to work on improving your depression/anxiety/whatever it is that is causing you distress. Use lifestyle factors, which means healthy eating, exercise several times a week, steady sleep schedule, good relationships. Do therapy. Take supplements and make sure that it isn't a nutritional deficiency causing your depression (iron deficiency is a common one). For some people though, ADs improve their quality of life so much that it's still worth it.

I've been on mine for about 5 years and my doctor told me that I would probably be on them forever unless I get pregnant. I had a very early onset of anxiety/depression at 12 years old, was in therapy for years and it didn't go away until I was put on the proper medication. I'm also a recovering alcoholic. My doctor said that if I were to stop taking the meds, my symptoms would most likely return.

Kristin,

Props to you!!! I had an alcohol problem as well. Sober since last Christmas! Good for you! A year ago, I decided to quit smoking, eat healthy, and start exercising. So far so good. My anxiety and depression will always be a part of my life, but I have learned to cope and to deal with it. I also have found that trusting in God has helped me out A TON and also, I moved to another state. It was scary at first, but it was the risk I needed to take to get over my fears.

I was always told you can be on anti depressants forever too!

Please don't forget, peeps, that you not only need a band-aid, but also longterm therapy. Do not take an antidepressant or antianxiety drug and think you're done with it.

You couldn't be more correct!

I feel I am pretty much healed from my depression/anxiety but I continue to take the Celexa because I find that when I wean down I start feeling crazy again.

just quiting without weaning yourself off can make the anxiety/depression worse, and you may not even notice it right away. it takes about three months for the drug to completely leave the system. so you may feel fine at first, but usually around the 3 month mark people will crash deeper than before.

as for use as necessary drugs like valium or xanax, they are fast working, but can cause serious drowsiness.
buspar can be taken daily or on an as needed basis for anxiety. you and your doc will have to decide what is best. it does not work as quickly as valium / xanax, but is less likely to cause drowsiness or dependency.

I started Zoloft about 5 years ago for anxiety and loved it. I was trying to get pregnant and went off it for about 4 years. and was feeling great. About a year ago the anxiety came back so I assumed to go back on it since it helped before. Wow was I wrong. It totally flipped me out. I had never had a panic attack before. Well after about 2 weeks of being back on it I suffered my first one. That completely changed my life. I than slipped into a depression and total anxiety and fear of having another. I had only ever suffered from anxiety before. I am now taking Lexapro. I have been on it for about 5 months and I have no complaints. I feel so much better. I just realy think that your body chemistry changes. And what worked for you at one point may not continue to. Tha best of luck to you. It's such a hard thing.
