We are clueless. We had been planning a camping/b&b tour for our honeymoon, but realized that with the price of gas and hotels and food, we might be able to swing a trip to Hawaii or somewhere else beachy and warm and amazing for the same price....

Where would you suggest looking? We know the usual suspects like kayak, orbitz, priceline, travelocity...

I'm not sure about where to look, but go to Kauai if you can- it's GORGEOUS and there is a ton of awesome hiking, snorkeling, and beautiful beaches, etc. It's also a little less built up than some of the other islands. If you do go to Kauai do the Nepali Coast hike- it is absolutely breathtaking! I know when we've gone we stay at the Kiahuna Plantation (but this is with my parents, so not sure how they found it). Have fun!!

Jessani: Try Travelzoo.com for great deals. Then when you discover possible hotels/resorts, use Tripadvisor.com and enter the name of the hote/resort into the search bar. You can read reviews and it's really VERY helpful. We found our trip to Turks & Caicos that way (last summer) and got an AMAZING deal.

Try Apple Vacations. I have used them before and was really happy because I didn't really have to do much work. The only thing I had to do was look at tripadvisor like someone has already mentioned to make sure the hotel was nice. You could try looking at the hotels on the Apple site by golden apple ratings. This way you find the best deal for a nice hotel.

Apple Vacations: Hawaiian All Inclusive Resort Vacation Packages

I've been to HI 3 times now. We went to Maui for our wedding and stayed there for our honeymoon. Our parents purchased some American Airlines vacation packages since it ended up being cheaper when comparing the seperate flight, hotel, rental car breakdown. I have been to Kauai before and spent a week there, but it was a little too small for me to be there so many days (once you drive around the island you feel like you have seen it all), so I prefer Maui since it is still really beautiful, but has more stuff to do IMO when it comes to shopping and restaurants. Maui is not nearly as busy and commercial as Honolulu though IMO. It's more of a middle grounds.

^^ lol.

LV is cheaper in Hawaii than the mainland, so my husband got sick of me constantly going to the boutique to look.

Jessani- we stayed at the Sheraton on Maui and it was gorgeous. It was by a black rock that you could just snorkel around, no boat transporation required. It was within walking distance of a cute shopping area that have lots of nice stores including LV and Tiffany &CO.

How new is the LV store at Whaler's Village? I remember Tiffanys, but that was 2005. I love Ka'anapali. Okay, I have to stop obsessing over Hawaii or I won't get anything done today. :jumping

If you're thinking about Maui at all, I recommend the Wailea area. It's less touristy than the north part of the island, and it hardly rains there at all. We stay on Keawakapu Beach in a set of condos called the Mana Kai. You can walk down the beach for miles, and that stretch of beach is really nice because there's a lot more private homes than resorts and is really uncrowded. Further down the same stretch of beach you can walk to the Grand Wailea, the Renaissance Wailea, etc. which are incredibly gorgeous resorts but are pretty expensive. We usually just rent a condo from private owners anytime we go on vacation which is really nice because you can get some good deals, plus you have a full kitchen to use.

I highly recommend Wailea on Maui as well. We stayed at the Renaissance Wailea. They share their beach with some condos next door. Right on the Beach at the Renaissance is an awesome snorkel spot. We spent so much time exploring it. We booked our package to Oahu separately (air and hotel). I used priceline vacations for our intra island travel as they were cheaper than booking air/hotel separate (but only for island hopping).

Wow, so many choices. Would it be possible to visit 3-4 islands in say 2 weeks?

Jessani, have you considered all-inclusive resorts? I don't even know of any in HI but it's a good idea IMO.

yes, you can easily island hop if you want. when i was there last year, the flights were fairly inexpensive to hop the islands.

like alissa and some others have suggested, kauai sounds perfect for you. i was there last march to attend a wedding on the north coast of the island. lots of the wedding guests chose to stay at the all-inclusive resort, but we chose to stay in an inexpensive condo. personally, when i am on vacation, the last place i want to be is in my hotel room, so, that is the place that i scrimp the most (but this is your honeymoon...sooo....:whistle).

when we ate our meals with the others at the resort, we just found that we enjoyed eating at the local restaurants more. the only advantage the all-inclusive resorts seemed to have was the concierge that would help coordinate any activities for you, but if you plan ahead you can do that all on your own as well. we also made sure to rent a car.
