Phew! We had a rough night here in memphis. . .

I was just wondering if everyone else around here is ok. I know that we have some members that are in Little Rock (i think pacosdad) (i'm not a stalker, I just happened to see it one day)

Well, I just have to say, as I watched that HUGE tornado on the Hilton camera (a camera one of the news stations has on top of a tall hotel), saw how there were fires and explosions all along it's path, and listened as they were saying it was coming right for my neighborhood, I seriously sat frozen in front of the TV in fear of my life.
We do not really have an inner room that can be closed off so I had the mattress in the hallway just in case my husband and I had to run in there.

I know that some of you out there in the southern middle part of the US have had some pretty scary experiences as well.
Tornadoes usually just hop right over memphis for some reason but not this one. Luckily, it veered more west and less north so it missed my house.
But I do not think I have ever been so scared as when I was watching the actual tornado develop on the tv and move through the sky line. It was horrifying and amazing all at once. However, it magnified my fear to where I could not even move (I even let my car get flooded in the street because I couldn't pull myself away from the tv).

I just hope that everyone out there is ok and that I am thinking about the families that lost a loved one

Wow! That's scary! I hope everyone is ok also.

We had a tornado a few years back in Salt Lake City, (such an unlikely place), & it did a lot of damage. It went right through the city center....crazy!
Tornados scare me.

This weather in the midwest is nuts! Thunderstorms one hour, 5 inches of snow the next hour...it's driving me crazy. Depressing.

Yeah, in the past, tonadoes never really scared me. I guess I always figured it would blow right over us and they always give false alarms. I always worry about earthquakes (we have never had one but evidently we are on a large fault line that is due).

But this was real and it really hit memphis. I was scared. It looked really big. Here is a picture someone took and put on the news:

It just seems weird that a tornado could last long in a city. It seems like all the buildings would make is dissipate.
This just hit on the outskirts of memphis but it eventually got to the airport and did some damage there. It also took down part of one of our malls.

Where does Char live. I'm not sure if anyone here is from Nashville but they also got hit.

We are currently under tornado watches/warnings now. They should end around 1pm CST.

I'm Alive!!! The storm was pretty bad and came out of nowhere, but went away just as fast. I just heard the wind and then turned on the TV and OMG there were so many possible tornadoes and actual ones. I didn't have any damage or loss of power. The closest tornado was in Conway, 20 minutes away . I hope Jesse is okay too, he should be no reported tornados where he lives.

Tornados are one of my phobias

I live in North Little Rock

We had a tornado down here in Fabens, Texas, last year. It did 1,000,000 dollars worth of IMPROVEMENTS!

glad to hear char and millypoo are safe and sound

I don't even know where to go if we had a tornado. I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment. I guess I could go bang on one of my downstairs neighbor's door, but I don't want all the stuff above me to come crashing down either

i would say go to the bottom floor. if a tornado hit you directly..you don't want to be on the top floor.

C-town has a bunch of flash flood warnings for the last 3 days. It's been torrential downpour all day and all last night

I'm glad everyone here is okay and I am grateful that the worst natural disaster that ever happens in CT is the occasional flood or blizzard, I can't imagine what it must have been like Millypoo, my heart goes out to all of the people that died.

Thanks everyone for the concern. I am glad that Pacosdad and Char are safe
It was definitely the closest call I have ever had and hopefully the closest I will ever have. Being near these kinds of things really makes you appreciate life a little more.

My boss' daughter (i also worked with her for a while) goes to Union University. That is in Jackson and it got hit really hard. She is ok and her mom is on her way to get her. I'm sure she scared to death. They had to hide in the dorm bathrooms while the tornado hit. It destroyed the girls' dormitory. They are so blessed/lucky that everyone survived. Here is a picture of the University:

Also, my professor recorded this from his house! Talk about being freaked out. I'm not sure what I would have done if I had seen it in real life
Here is the link if you want to watch
