Buyer wants me to cancel her bid so she can use Buy It Now? Should I let her?

Ok so I have a pair of jeans on eBay for sale, and a bidder (only 1 bid so far with 4 days remaining), bids on my auction. She then messages me and wants to Buy It Now Instead. I said I can't since she already placed a bid and the BIN feature is gone. She then messages me back to cancel her bid so she can use the BIN feature (I assume BIN will come back once I cancel her bid?). Should I cancel the bid? I am thinking maybe they are just saying that so I can cancel the bid and that person probably won't bid or use BIN feature (basically as a way to get off the hook of being obligated to purchase). Or maybe they could be serious, but I don't know.

What should I do in this situtation? Let the auction continue? Tell her, "Hey if you're lucky you might get it for less than BIN?" Cancel the bid? Anything other option that might work?

BIN does not come back after the buyer bids. You will not be able to added it to the auction again after you remove the bid. You would need to set up a new auction with a buy it now.

I don’t know what’s wrong with buyers, a bid is a serious thing, is an actual contract not something you can change your mind about . I wouldn’t cancel it. She should wait till it ends -at least you are thinking you’ll get a much better deal with the BIN option, but again, there is no guaranty that she will end up buying it after cancelling the bid

Yah I totally agree. If she wanted to buy it in the first place, she should have used the BIN which was there in the first place. I'm thinking I should just let the auction take it's course. It's not really the money I am after as even the difference between starting bid and BIN was only $20 (which is not really that much to me).

Besides there are other people watching the auction and if her intention was to get off the hook, she may get lucky if someone outbids her.

The only problem with that is that the bidder will win with the lowest big, not the BIN price. Others would have to bid to get the price up close to the BIN. Sucks for the seller.

yes and you can tell her that you will add the difference between her bid and the BIN price to the invoice. That works - I have done that.

Yeah, make her pay the BIN price FIRST, then end the auction either by cancelling her bid and ending it entirely, or ending early to sell to high bidder at the current price but then she can leave feedback for you

Which pair is this?! (I am asking cause I just messaged a seller to put a BIN on a pair, which I already put a bid on..BUT there was no BIN button, to begin with.)

There were a lot of times in the past that I have requested for a BIN and when the sellers add it, somebody beats me to it. Maybe cause of the time difference (I am currently in Asia). Is there a way to prevent this? I'm not bitter or anything, it's just that they ask me if I want the BIN added (with the agreed price)...and I end up not being their buyer.

It's heartbreaking...

Just to confirm Treasurehord (your advice has helped me alot from making tje mistake of cancelling a bid when they should commit to it), I told the bidder I will do live help chat and get the official answer from eBay since the bidder still kept insisting on cancelling her bid so that the Buy It Now option will show up again. And this is part of the chat log with eBay:

12:18:40 AM adelmundo
i just don't want to cancel the bid
12:18:55 AM adelmundo
and then not have a buy it now show up
12:19:05 AM adelmundo
which will then mean I will have to relist
12:19:13 AM adelmundo
and pay listing fees again
12:19:25 AM adelmundo
just to have the Buy It Now option again
12:19:47 AM Vaughn M.
I can understand your concern about this, Art.
12:20:24 AM Vaughn M.
The best thing to do for this is to wait for the auction to end by itself and advice the member to place his bid on the item to see if he will win it.
12:21:14 AM adelmundo
So Basically what you are saying is that if I cancel their bid, the Buy It Now option will not show up and that i will have to relist the item again and pay listing fees again for the Buy It Now option to appear?
12:21:47 AM Vaughn M.
Yes, that's right.

So there you have it the official word from eBay confirming what Treasurehoard has said...

In other words it's the principle of eBay and if you make a bid and stick to it, you got to follow eBay rules. I'll leave it to the bidder if they want to retract their bid (if they were not really serious about getting the R&R's), or just waiting out and hope they win auction with the bid they placed.

If they wanted it that bad they should have used the BIN while it was still there.

I usually cancel contracts due to "lack of capacity". Call it what you call it im an alcoholic. I should go to sleep.

Seriously, if she wants it that bad, send her a paypal invoice and tell her to pay for it, and THEN you will end the auction with her as the winner. There is no way to lose here since you'll already have the money

OK you better pay up because she actually paid the Paypal invoice and once I checked my Paypal account to see if she actually paid, I then ended the auction early. I will be sending her the jeans on Tuesday. Thanks for the advice!

Actually Callire you should send that $5 bet that you lost to Idalis for giving me that advice to send the invoice and see if the bidder would actually pay the BIN price + shipping.

Thanks Idalis for the advice!
