Teacher Fired over Conservative Views

Would this be acceptable if he/she were fired over LIBERAL views?

Ponder that.

what makes you think this is acceptable???

because one or two individuals make a ill-advised decision to fire someone, doesn't meant it's acceptable, or that there is a widespread double standard.

that being said, what you are getting there is void of unbiased information, since the source is the man who was fired.

...I would just like to say that Lawrence, Kansas is quite possibly one of the most conservative places EVER. I only say that because I know many people who live/grew up there and I have been there quite a few times myself.

Jesus fucking christ, does this shit actually pass as journalism? "You website was too patriotic, why is that a bad thing?" I tried using google to find more about the story but no such luck.

I'll withhold judgment until it's clear what actually happened instead of trying to stir up conservative anger on the interweb

I do not think its acceptable.

However it happened.

It seems to be 'acceptable' as the conservative beliefs and agenda is now
'acceptable' to bash, or to discriminate against.

maybe where you live joan. But down here...where this all happened, being liberal is still a scarlet letter.

Kansas is only one state away from the only state in the US where John McCain won every county - and that state was my very own, Oklahella.

To echo Imhotep, the only source is the man who was fired. Why don't we get some actual facts in here before crying injustice?

In all seriousness this just seems like a really weak troll attempt

no i meant "what makes you think this is acceptable", in reference to you alluding to that this type of thing has some sort of widespread acceptance.

and Phishphood is right, this is a joke of a news story. to extrapolate anything from it is even more unacceptable than firing random teachers.

for the record, i see nothing wrong with a patriotic teacher. but i cant deduce that was the extent of what happened, because of the nature of the reporting.

Here we go again. It's a Fox News story, so it must be garbage.

Here's the full story:

and here:

Kansas High School Teacher Fired for Being Conservative? : Stop The ACLU

and to put it in perspective for the CNN/ABC/NBC-heads out there:

Again, I know how to use google. I saw those same links but I didn't bother with them because they're far from unbiased reports. The first one is called stop the ACLU, I mean seriously. And here's what wikipedia has to say about the second link

This topic would be a whole new thread, but.... yeah, your point? Because an entity has the words "civil liberties" in it, it must be good, right?

Ok, I had to get it out of my system... must. buy. jeans. Bye now!

I think teachers should try to be more impartial (not talking about this one necessarily). When I was a kid, I basically saw my teachers as Gods. I don't know if I'd be comfortable if a teacher was influencing my kid heavily on subjects like these. It would be more appropriate if the teachers encouraged kids to find their own opinion... then again, I'm not a teacher.

This has nothing to do with what your views are. A site title "Stop the ACLU" clearly has an agenda and more than likely a conservative bias. It would be like posting PETA's website as an unbiased source on animal cruelty.

I assume that you were trying to prove that the journalistic abortion by Fox was actually quality reporting by linking to other news sources, but the sources you linked to are blatantly biased, so you failed

I'm so sick and tired of people claiming that conservatives are under fire in this country and that it is acceptable to bash, discriminate, fire, harass anyone who holds conservative views?

Rubbish.

The only place where conservatives are under fire in America is at the polling place. Take a look at the results of the last two national elections. BTW, the more conservatives moan and groan like a bunch of little babies the more likely they're going to get another spanking at the polls in 2010.

Time to grow up people.

BTW, who knows exactly why this man was fired? I find more than one of his educational philosophies to be rather strange, particularly the notion that his view of the American way of life should be taught in public schools. I thought teachers were supposed to teach, not preach.

Has anyone watched the movie about what the students said about him? I can't watch it at the office as I don't have sound.

If he did get fired for his views or something innocuous like his McCain/Palin bumper sticker, that's too bad, but I have to say I am skeptical. In my experience, expressing liberal views in the US is more likely to get you bashed than saying you support republican views. I am making a mental note to avoid talking politics outside my house for the next 4 years as I move to the US!

I'm having a hard time believing that there are no other Republicans amoung those that decide his professional fate. Not in Kansas. I'd like more of the story, but maybe this is it. Maybe he feels these are the reasons he was fired. Anyway, He didn't really get fired, his contract wasn't renewed.

I don't know how I would feel about a teacher running personal views website for his students either. I think that is a little, idk the word I'm looking for. Too private? Maybe? The teachers I know won't even set up a Facebook account. Personally, I don't want anyone telling my kid how to be a good Republican or a good Democrat.

Well according to him his views are in the center, so why is he fired for being "conservative"?

Why are you either "conservative" or a "liberal" in America? Where exactly was this "liberal" media in America when Dan Rather was punished for doing his job and reporting an unbiased look on the Bush Administration or Phil Donahue fired from CNBC or Michael Moore being booed at the Academy Awards?

The fact is public opinion shifts. Conservative "values" are alive and well all over America, just as are "liberal" ones. You can make arguments for injustices for both sides because in general, people are complete fuckin' idiots.
