Has anybody purchased anything before from fashion-exchange on ebay? They're charging sales tax only for buyers from CA and I'm not too sure if they are actually a company that has a tax id.
I would be surprised if fashion-exchange doesn't have a resellers permit. You can request their tax ID number and verify it on the BOE site. I am sure they have one though based on what I know about them.
Definitely not rude. I do it when ever I buy something on eBay and the seller looks like someone who is not running a legit business. So far I have never received a tax ID number from any seller that I requested it from. In those cases I remove the sales tax and just pay the total w/ out it.
Legally you are supposed to pay use tax on items you do not pay sales tax on ...
Incorrect, if you don't have a B&M store you are still obligated to collect sales tax in the state where you have your business license. If you have B&M stores in several states then you would collect sales tax in each of the states where the B&M stores are located.
