A crazy idea...AF Fitness meetup at the Phoenix 1/2 marathon/Marathon!

So I had this brilliant idea as I was running this morning...if any fellow runners and fitness freaks are interested in training for a 1/2 marathon or marathon, we could arrange an AF meetup the weekend of the event and have an AF "team"!
I am planning to run the PF Chang Rock&Roll 1/2 marathon in Phoenix during MLK weekend. It's far enough out that even someone who can only do 3 miles at a time could be ready in January.
Anyone interested??
I am following the Hal Higdon 1/2 marathon novice training program, with the 10K program dovetailing into the start of the 1/2 training.
It's also a team-in-training event, so people can do their training through that if the idea of training alone seems daunting.

If I am not pregnant at the time, I may just do it. I usually do 3 half marathons between September and December, so this would be great timing for me.

Jaime...well, I hope you are pregnant, but if not, I would love to watch you leave me in the dust at a race.
Wakerider, here's a link to Hal's site. He has a bunch of different training regimens. I really liked the 10k one that I did last year (so much that I'm doing it again after losing mileage base due to illness), it's so manageable and great for sustainable running.
Hal Higdon
Flights to Phoenix are often really cheap on southwest!

This sounds like fun, I can only do probably 2.5 miles right now but I'm sure I can build it up in no time. The 1/2 mile marathon doesn't scare me its the flying part of getting to the marathon that does. We'll see

I can't run more than 1/4 mile - my ankles and back are killing me because of a back problem I was born with.

That's is an awesome idea, but I don't know if I'll be ready for a half in Jan. I can currently run about 4 1/2 miles and 13 1/2 seems like a lot...

You can do it. I did my best 1/2 marathon with running 3X/wk last December. You can do it.

Patty, I am only running 3.5-4 miles at a pop right now, 3x a week. You have plenty of time to build up the mileage. I am only running 3 days a week as well.
We should do it!!

I think I'm already doing three halfs in January (pretty much the only time we have marathons in Florida), but that's a cool idea. I didn't realize there were many runners on AF.

I'm training for the Chicago (full) right now and it has been brutal training in the summer. I've logged two of my three 20+ mile runs and it's almost time to start tapering. I'll have a really good base to start training for halfs after October too.

Clark, nice! Marathon training in the summer would be pretty challenging. I did it in Ithaca, NY, but it's not nearly as hot/humid as it is in FL.
The Chicago, that is really cool!
I like the half marathon because there's no crazy recovery period...you can pretty much keep running after the race. I couldn't walk normally for a week after my first marathon. :P

This is such a great idea but I don't know if I'll have the $$. After my trip out to California in Oct. for a half marathon I need to really start saving for some other trips next year. If I can swing it, I might be there.

So, crazy me ran 11.5 miles today. My neighbor and I run together 3x week 5 miles each day. She usually goes by herself on the weekend for a long run. I joined her and I survived. I have not ran that long since April.
My body hurts. Getting ready for Jessani

Holy crap, Jaime! I did my "long"run today, but it was only 6 miles. That's awesome...
Lizzi, you can find really cheap flights to Phoenix on Southwest, like between $49-69 one way.

^^This has been my issue lately. I don't think I'm hydrating/feeding myself on enough on long run days. I try to drink and eat a ton afterward but still feel exhausted later on. Do you guys eat something particular after your long runs to not feel so shitty? I actually felt really good after yesterday's 10 miles but last weekend was not so good. (Sorry to threadcrap...)

I do think its an awesome idea Jess! But, in my case, in a farther date, I need at least 6 months in advance to plan a mini getaway, we already have plans for December and March, so next available vacation time for me is summer
