Is it true?

Is it true that if you have a large/larger rear end that it's harder to workout that specific area?
I have a pretty large butt and I was wondering how I could tone it. I've basically tried everything. From running to squats....

Anyone have an excercise routine they know is good for that area?
Thanks.

Welcome to the club!!

I too am a fellow large butted girl...i really have no body fat anywhere but my rear and I will agree that it is very hard to loose that last bit of weight in a specific area.

Unfortunatley there is no secret to just getting rid of fat in one area of your body. Usually the place where you gain weight first will be the place where you loose it last (which for me is my butt as well, but i am working on it).

I will suggest this: Try doing various types of deadlifts and squats. And lift heavy. Lunges are also great but make sure that you are tiring out your muscles. If you build muscle in your legs, that muscle will help you burn fat and you will become a lean mean fat burning machine. Most importantly you need to keep at it and don't get too discouraged if you don't see results in a month. Things like this take time and effort.

Diet can also help you out. I have posted my diet plan in another thread but if you want me to i can post it here for you too.

^i agree with linds.

i also have more booty than anything else and something that has helped me is developing my upper body (shoulders). it makes my body look more balanced.

sometimes you just have to embrace what you were born with - concentrate on developing your glutes and legs (hamstrings) to give your booty lift and tone.

Here is my diet plan that i am pretty strict about following:

Breakfast was:

150 grams of low fat plain yogurt
30 grams of protein powder
50 grams of uncle sams oats
a bit of honey to taste

Snack:

2 Carrots and a slice of cheese
10 Kashi cheese crackers

Lunch

100 grams of turkey breast
10 kashi cheese crackers
veggies...lots of veggies

Snack:

Larabar

Dinner:

100 grams of chicken
Veggies Veggies and more Veggies
All made into a stir fry
1/2 a cup of brown rice

Snack:

30 Grams of protein powder
Fats (peanut butter, nuts etc).

It works out to be just over 1700 calories a day.

In addition to this I am at the gym 6 days a week for a very short period of time actually (30-45 minutes) but i am pretty much working out the entire time. A normal workout will consist of various types of squats (front squat, regular squat, box squat) lunges and of course my favorite, the deadlift. I deadlift pretty heavy (can do 150lbs, trying for 200lbs by summers end) but when starting out i would suggest just using the bar so that you have proper form. Then once you have figured out the form, start adding weights.

I am not really big into any specific type of cardio, i just stay active. I walk my dog for a total of probably an hour a day at least, i rollerblade climb trees, go swimming or even just play catch with my BF.

yeah, if you have a layer of fat over your butt like I do...it probably won't go away. especially if you're Italian, Hispanic or have some other ancestry that predisposes you to being bootylicious! (and I definitely feel your pain on not having an hourglass shape...what I wouldn't give to be a nice 36C and have my boobs match my butt...)

I am Italian and Spanish as well (no Greek though, just a little Scandinavian)

My booty has gotten a little bit smaller since I started eating healthier and working out, but not comparitively since I've lost inches everywhere else as well. Why do you wanna lose your butt anyway?! I know I don't want mine going anywhere

I'm half Arab and half Polish.

I have a 34 C bust. Everyone tells me to embrace my curves. I don't see curves, I just see flab.

It's not that I want to loose my butt, it's the fact that it could use so much toning.

I guess when it really comes down to it, you want what you cant have... haha.
I'm 5'1", I'm a 34C and I fit a 25 or a 26 and I dont have much of a bum. Id gladly go down a bra size for a bit more of a bum. I gain fat mostly in my middle section (my belly and my back), it's almost impossible for me to tone.. What I would give to gain on my butt instead. haha.
Ladies, I'm sure you all look great. Embrace your curves.

It seems the pear-shaped club has shown its face! I have the exact same problem, the thing that has worked the most to whittle down the derrier is running. As much as most of us don't like it, I have found the most results. That and lunges, I find that squats tend to build muscle and round out an already full behind.

I understand what yall mean about wanting a toned butt, not a small butt.

I actually like the size and shape of my butt. I just wish that it was more toned and less jiggly/fat. I love the way a nice shapley toned butt looks on a woman.
