Who here HAS to have their Ipod/music while running?

When the battery dies in my Ipod, I literally turn around and go home. For some reason I just "have to have my music". This happened just today and I felt like such a baby ha ha!

I hope I'm not the only one this neurotic...

Me! I'm not as motivated and run a shorter distance (or don't run at all) if I don't have my music. It's so bad. I hate working out without it too.

i thought i was like this too, but i'm pretty strict about my running schedule. if my ipod isn't charged, i have to deal with it. i can also run races without music (just because most of the time they aren't allowed). it's enough motivation to be running with thousands of people.

I have to or it seems so much more boring. But I have had to when the battery dies and so on.

Um, any time I am outside of my house without my music, I more or less shrivel up.

Must. Have. Music. Constantly. It colors the otherwise depressingly bland canvas of my life.

Come to think of it, I ALWAYS have to have music on while I'm driving too!

i found it is easier to run with music, but that is because it is a distraction from how my body feels.

i think that supports the evidence that music, magazines and tvs distract you enough that you are getting less of a workout when you utilize them.

for my work commutes on the train/bus, i am all about audio books.

Interesting - I have not heard that before, but that makes sense in a way.

yeah...I'm so ADD though that if I don't have a magazine in front of me AND my ipod on, I won't be able to go for more than 15 minutes! With both I could go for like an hour (on the elliptical...kind of hard to run with a magazine)

I ran cross country in high school, and no music was allowed during practice or races so I got used to running that way. I do use my iPod sometimes now, but I don't have to have it.

I used to be that way until I was attacked by a dog. I didn't hear him running up on me.

Indoors I prefer music (or tv), outdoors I'm fine without (plus I like to keep an ear out for foot/bike/car traffic).
Muggings here are not a regular occurrence, do happen (for things like mp3 players!).

When I use it outdoors, I keep the volume on minimum so I can still hear what is going on around me.

I'm sort of 50/50 with the music. On the other hand, for work I have to have music going.

Most definetly, when I am running I need my ipod! I will lift weights or go home if the battery dies.

I definitely prefer to have my Ipod & I seem to have more endurance when I am able to pick certain songs to listen to. I agree that TV and magazines cause me to get less of a workout because I can't run and read/watch TV at the same time. I have to slow my pace when I am reading.

Yeah I get annoyed by it. I'm always knocking an earbud out of my ear because it flops back and forth in front of me. No biggie though.

My old sony sports earphones have a clip, so you can clip to the top of your shirt to stop the flying/bouncing wires.
They don't have the greatest audio quality, but it's okay if you aren't trying to down out surrounding noises. There are probably better ones with a clip too.
Also, you can bring the wire behind your neck so it doesn't bounced around in front.

I need every distraction I can get--friends, music (always), TV, and sometimes magazines. Most of the time I run to my iPod while watching America's Next Top Model with closed captioning. Lol.
