Calf exercises?

My calves are pretty flabby. What can I do besides cardio and working them on the stairs?
Thanks!

Calf raises, jump rope, jumping jacks.

You will not get rid of flab in your calves by spot training. You have to do cardio.

As an aside, calves are the hardest muscle to build up for most people.

^agreed.

I had read some articles before that the calf muscle recovers super fast, so the key is high intensity/volume with very little rest (under 30 secs btw sets). seemed to somewhat work for me

Ballet dancers have the best calves in the world. Check out the New York City Ballet Workout on DVD. It will kick your ass and build your calves--guaranteed!

Soccer! I know it is not feasible for everyone but um holy crap, soccer legs = impossible to find boots.

^Agreed! Soccer and rugby (I played both) are killer for your legs in general.

Maybe not, but I think it is super hot for anyone (male or female) to play sports.

I used to play soccer, but I was a defender so I didn't get the calves.

geebs, you crack me up!

EDIT: I also want to add that some people just have naturally perfect legs and therefore great calf muscles. I know people who work out like crazy and still have skinny lower legs. Good calf muscles can be hereditary.

Yep - Soccer gave me calves of steel, but as Rivkah said - BOOTS = impossible to find.
Jumping Rope, Running, STEP CLASSES (holy crap!) that will do it - and weighted calf raises seem to work.

Genetics gave me extremely slim calves, and they don't get very big - but when I was dancing(tap) they were beautifully defined. Gosh, I miss dance

I think it can have something to do with the way you walk as well? If you look at how people with massive calves walk, they mostly walk on their toes. Wear 3 inch heels all day, that out to work those suckers out for sure.

OooO I think that overpronation does it too. I didn't realize how flat my feet were until a year ago or so, and I've since read that flat arches lead to having to overuse your calf muscles.

I don't think so, well at least not for all. My feet are flat and my calves are tiny.

my feet underpronate but my calves are quite muscular.
ETA: too muscular...and I truly believe they are a result of running and step classes.
