Runner's High! When do you get yours?

So I discovered that I get my runner's "high" after approx. 20-25 min of running. Yesterday I jogged at a higher pace than normal (6.5-6.8 on the treadmill) for 5 miles. About half-way thru I experienced that "euphoric" feeling you read about. It helped fuel the rest of my run. I've had a great feeling after runs but never that "HIGH" and finally I had it! Today, I jogged 3.5 and I experiencd it as well...I believe I am addicted to running! Do you experience a runner's high and if so, when does yours kick in?

Is this a joke? Does it feel like you want to vomit? That's all I feel when I run.

hehe...no. I used to feel like I was going to vomit until I slowed my pace about 7 months ago. I was pushing too hard - just gotta find a comfortable pace (no matter what speed).

I get it when I stop running.
Seriously! I don't know if I'd call it euphoric, but I am in a very good mood for the next couple hours after a really good run or after a good sprinting game.

As for euphoric...
Not sure about regular running, depends on what shape I'm in at the time. I get the euphoric feeling when I am faster than someone I am racing (ie. for a ball, or if I have the ball and am able to pass to myself through their D).
I miss that feeling..

i havent gotten that from running for a while (my gym's stupid 30 minute time limit on the treadmills may have something to do with that...) but i get that feeling about 45 minutes into a really intense kickboxing class.

mmm. this reminds me I need to go work out!!!!

I am doing a boot camp and I get that feeling about half way through. The class is an hour and 15 minutes.

I love it. We meet 3x a week at 8pm, which is late, but several of the women have young kids they need to get to bed before we start. We do different things on each night so it hasn't been boring or repetitive. We do stuff like sprints, suicides, running laps in the gym, lunges, ab work, football drills, basketball drills, we use those weighted balls, jump ropes, weights, and other stuff and we kind of do it in a circuit type setting. I can already tell after the first week, that my cardio level is better. Some of the stuff we do is excruciating but you just have to suffer through it! We do a lot of screaming and cussing, but that is okay! I wish it would last the entire summer, but I think as of now, we are just going month to month. I am going to lobby to continue through at least june. the stuff we do could easily be done with a partner at home, its just so much easier to have someone telling you to do it!

I highly recommend it as it is never boring!

^ i just discovered a bootcamp class at my gym that is amazing! when finals are done I can see myself becoming really addicting to it. It sounds a lot like ^, except when the weather is nice we go outside and do drills in the stadium steps, the track, etc. It just feels so amazing to get outside and work out, and I can definitely tell its working me much harder than I could push myself. I would try it, (even if it is really early), you might find a reason to become a morning person

^you could do something similar in the hour you have with your trainer.

i always ask miles to mix it up with me. that is why we incorporated the kickboxing with pads into my workouts. i feel like i am paying for a training partner and so we do a lot of partner drills (no sprints or suicides though...i do too much of that at soccer).

for example, last friday we did partner tosses with an 8 lb. weighted ball so that i could mimic soccer throw-ins. he just got to catch and throw though...i had to catch, sit on the bosu ball, do a crunch with the ball overhead and then throw the ball back at him from the crunch and stand up again.

back to runner's highs...i usually get mine around the 40 minute mark. but like julia said, it is hard to figure that out on the treadmill because of the 30 minute limit, so i have to reset the machine.

I usually get it around mile 3 and it lasts until mile 5/6, and then it stops feeling wonderful. I always get a high after I'm done, too, but after LONG runs, not so much.
I didn't get them until I slowed down, either.

Those weighted balls are a BITCH! We had to throw them over a marked line on the wall, run laps full speed holding them over our heads, bend down pick it up and jump and high as we could and bend down again--and that is just a few of the hellish things we have done with them!

so true!!! my upper abs are still sore today. after the first set of 20, all i could say was, "i am so grateful a real soccer ball isn't weighted!"

No kidding! Its amazing how the boot camp type workout is working every muscle even when you don't know it!! Throwing that weighted ball is a major ab workout!

Bootcamp workouts sound fun
I always loved conditioning before lacrosse season; mannn I have to get back in shape!
I usually get my runners high at the 2.5 mile mark, for me that is around 20-25 minutes depending on my pace.

i run at 6.9 and i get the high at a bout 2.5 miles in.....so around 15 -16 minutes. Also, i have noticed that the high also depends on how tired i am beforehand and what i had for lunch that day. If i kept it light and took Sunday off from working out....i'll feel it great.
