Quickest way to get in shape?

It's pretty sad that it takes something like a vacation to get me in shape but I need to tone up & quick!

I'm going to Cabo San Lucas mid May for a week (kid free ) but I'm stressed out. I haven't been working out & I really want to feel comfortable while I'm there. I bought 3 awesome dresses to wear out for the nightlife & they are form fitting. I also bought a new bikini which I'll wear regardless....but I feel like my ass is all jiggily when I walk.......yuck. And I still have my lovely stretched out skin from my babies that could use quite a bit of help.

So....I have a month & a half to whip my ass into shape. Is there a method that gives you fast results?

Please help!

P.S. I'm not into hard ripped bodies. I want to be woman soft but just toned up a bit!

Sorry, but I don't know any quick fixes.
It's been slow and steady for me.
But, have a great vacation!

I recommend p90x, I saw results in under a month. It involves weights but you don't get bulked up.

P90X will show you results in the first 30 days if you stick to their program. It isn't easy but you will see real changes after the first month.

Ok...sorry...I should've just posted under that thread.
Where do you get it? I have to start today.

Edit: I just found a link & dang it's expensive. Are there different programs...should I look for a specific one?

you don't need a 'system' like p90x to work out or get in shape.

obviously, you are motivated by your vacation. here are my suggestions:

1. drink lots and lots and lots of water

2. make sure you are watching your diet...lots of fresh fruit, veggies, whole grains, lean proteins, ect.

3. weight lifting or even toning exercises that involve your own body weight (pilates and yoga are both great for that).

4. at least 30 minutes of cardio per day.

if you haven't been working out at all...this should get you results in 6 weeks.

^ This reminds me of The Last 10 Pounds Bootcamp. This season they are picking brides-to-be who can't fit into their wedding dresses, and work with them for four weeks by changing their diet and instituting a regular work-out schedule. It's nothing unrealistic, but the nutritionist gets rid of all the junk in the participant's diet (white pastas/rice, alcohol, junk food) and sets out a healthy meal plan with clear guidelines, and the trainer designs a work-out plan to target the specific areas that aren't fitting the dress...sometimes the participant doesn't lose a full 10 pounds, but she always loses inches, fits into her dress at the end and looks great!
The show is a little cheesy, but I think they give easy-to-follow advice.

Here's another problem. I have always been to skinny. I weighed only 110 pounds after having 2 kids & I'm 5'7". I didn't have any ass & my hip bones totally stuck out. The last time I went to Mexico I looked like a twig & I hate the pictures.

I like having more meat on my bones. My jeans look better & I actually have curves....it only took 3 kids to get some but I finally do!!

I really don't want to lose any weight.....I just want my body to be more in shape. How do I avoid losing weight?

Eat low fat dairy, cut down on carbs, drink lotsa water & eat 6 mini meals a day rather than 3 big meals. Start applying some self-tanner on your body every day and you'll have a bit of a tan which will make you look more toned. Do pilates and cardio at least 3x per week. I have also found a multi vitamin called Vita-Slim from Jamieson that has green tea extract which helps to speed up your metabolism-this works well for me in combination with the other stuff I mentioned.

weight loss is a simple calculations of calories burned versus calories consumed.

3500 calories equals 1 pound.

if you don't want to lose weight then you consume as many calories as you are expending.

adding in the toning (pilates, weights, yoga) exercise, plus cardio will help your body tone up...but if you track your food intake in terms of calories versus your exercise in terms of calories and make sure those are equal, you won't lose any weight.

i use fitday.com to track what i eat and my exercise. i've found it to be a fairly accurate way of tracking.

If you want to maintain your weight but tone up, focus on weight training and resistance training to avoid burning too many calories. You want to build muscle (you won't get big in 6 weeks!) so that's the way to go. You are quite slim so I bet you will show improvements really fast.

Lift weights at low reps. You need to feel the burn at 6 to 8 reps. No, you don't need P90X to get fit. You don't need weights, gyms, trainers, or anything else for that matter.

Push ups, sit ups, and pull ups are the only things that you need to do to work your chest, back, arms, and abs. You have great looking legs so you really don't need to do much there.

Push ups: max rep=as many as you can do to feel the burn in your eyeballs. I kid.
No rest between push ups
Wide push ups - 1 set to max rep
Normal push ups - 1 set to max rep
Military push ups - "
30 sec rest between sets.
Do 2-3 sets of push ups before moving on.

Chair dips 1-3 sets of max reps using a chair to assist to feel the burn (no more than 30 sec rest between reps)

Chin ups: if you have a chin up bar or a playground in the backyard.
Use a chair to help you lift the body.
Max reps
Wide grip pull ups (hands are wider than the shoulders) (knuckles facing)
Narrow grip pull ups (hands are even with shoulders
chin ups (hands facing)
Do them in order and no more than 30 sec rest btwn reps.

Sit ups (no rest between sets)
in/outs - balance on your behind, hands on the floor, legs in and out 25 reps.
bicylcles from the same position 25 reps (like you are riding a imaginary bike - legs in the air)
reverse bicycle 25 reps (rotate your legs backwards)
Leg raises from 90 degree angle - you're lifting your legs straight up and getting your butt off the floor. 25 reps
Twisting sit ups 25 reps
Sit ups - 25 reps
Crunches - do at least 50 to finish.

This workout shouldn't take more than 20 - 25 minutes.

PM me if you have any questions.

I FORGOT TO ADD. You need to sit in front of your TV and eat twinkies for the next six weeks. Mrs. Ruffles.

Weight training, low carb diet is what works best for a lot of people.

At the moment I am trying to be in the gy 5-6 days a week doing weights for 45 minutes and cardio for 30. However a lot of my cardio is outside of the gym (walking the dog, rollerblading, dancing etc.)

I personally am a believer in resistance and weight training. You will not get big by lifting heavy at all. Plus it will help you tone up rather then loose weight. If you are wanting to get your butt (literally) into shape i suggest doing squats and lunges with heavier weights (try holding 10-15lbs dumbells in each hand while doing them). Do 3 sets of 12-15 reps.

As for diet, if you cut out most carbs and focus on eating a lot of fruits and veggies as well as lean proteins you should notice a difference. Turkey, chicken and salmon are some of my favorite things to eat now along with grapefruit or pumelos for breakfast and carrots as a snack (sometimes i dip my carrots in gaucamole when i am feeling naughty!).

I did Windsor Pilates a while ago and saw results within a month. Mind you, I was relatively fit at the time though.

How about adding some calf raises and lunges for some (extra) shapely legs?

onelove: I'm fairly slim, with exception to my thighs (lots of sprinting sports in the past) and just do a weight-training class (low weights, tons of reps) + some cardio a few times a week (although have started to up my running again). I haven't lost any weight, but have probably gained some - I think it's mainly muscle because I've stopped struggling in the weights class and have been able to increase my weights! Exercise always makes me hungry, so I am eating better than...before. Plus I'm starting to see some definition in my formerly-non-existent abs! (From only 2-4x 5min of ab track a week....)
You'll probably start seeing/feeling differences within two weeks with visionary333's plan. With all of the exercises, you can also vary the speed (i.e. push-ups up+down on a single beat, switch to two beats up+two beats down; three beats up+one beat down, etc. - going slowly burns extra quickly!)

Erica doesn't need any work on her legs. That is the reason why left out stuff about her legs.

Thanks Vis....

Did she mean that I have chicken legs? Haha cuz it's true!

My diet has changed. I usually eat candy a lot throughout the day (hot bears & hot tamales) but don't anymore.

I've been exercising. I'm kind of optimistic that I'll see improvement even in this short of time.

No! sorry! I'm not familiar with your legs......the plan by Vis hits everywhere else, but I didn't fully-read his post that said he was deliberately skipping them until a re-read....I'm sure you have great legs! Just about everyone in AF seems to....it's probably linked to the main purpose of this forum...

I was totally teasing you. I didn't take it personal

Zoki & Rae: I'm not doing p90x. It's to dang expensive & I agree that working out right is just as good.

I didn't mean to thread crap btw, and I didn't think you were doing P90X. I just saw it recommended here, and the other thread, I thought I was missing something so phenomenal and worth big $$$ that I maybe should jump on the band wagon. I mean there are SO MANY DAMN systems out there you just never know, right?
