help please, i think i hurt myself :P

no, not with p90x.

though it might have something to do with it...

so, randomly, when i was doing a cardio class that involved a lot of spinning/kicking/balancing, my foot seized up and hurt so bad I had to go sit in the corner for a while. it feels like a really bad cramp in the instep/ball of my foot area, and its not the first time its happened. I was on the diving team in highschool, and doing backdives (where you pretty much hang off the board by your toes to start) used to make it happen. I totally forgot how much it hurt, but am kind of bothered by it now b/c I looked it up on the internet and really scared myself
i dont want to be putting strain on something that could lead to a more serious problem, anyone experienced anything like this or know how to keep it from happening?

Does this still hurt? I used to randomly have this happen to me. It has probably happened to me 10 times in my life and most were during high school when I was on the tennis team. It happened before when I was playing tennis, and has happened when walking or even lounging around. Most of the times when it happened when I was stretching or straining my legs or arch of my foot. I haven't had this happen to me in a year though. I try to not point my toes or stretch my leg too hard. That pain is sooo bad though. When it happens my toes sort of cripple up and I feel a shooting pain in my arch and I feel immobilized until it passes.

I have never researched it before, so I am not sure what causes it. I'm just glad it hasn't happened to me in a long time. I figured it was just too much strain on a muscle that caused a tightening or spasm. I have started being more active and working out more, so I hope that they don't start up again. I would be interested to know though if there is some scientific term for it or if it's something to be worried about.

Sorry- I know that pain sucks big time! Maybe just take it easy for a few days.

Does it almost feel like your ligament is bending backwards? I've had this happen before...it lasts for a few seconds and goes away gradually in that case...just think of it like a somewhat bendy metal or plastic strip that usually curves in one direction (upward to give you a normal arch) but if you stretch it completely, there's room for it to reverse so when it contracts again it goes the other way and bends downward! kinda hard to explain, but definitely not a pleasant experience. I'm not sure if this is what you're getting, but if it is, I've always found it to be temporary...it does feel like a spasm though, and it may also stiffen out the toes affected (usually the last 3)

Ooh oh! I get this too I've never had it happen during sports or anything, but usually when I stay in one position (with my feet curled under and pointed) too long or if I point my toes too hard. I'm not really sure what causes it though, I've never injured the bottom part of my foot before. I find what helps a lot with the pain and sometimes even "pops" it back is holding my foot with my hand and pressing down hard on it with my thumb. I actually had this happen like 3 days ago. I felt it, and it felt like there was this huge muscle flexed, like a huge lump where my arch should be. I just held my foot and pushed down on the lump for 3 minutes or so, and the pain stopped.

I don't know if any of that made sense but if it's what you're talking about I hope that helps!

I had this happen all the time years ago when I used to dance and do gymnastics. I'm not sure what causes it. I'd just limited the amount of strain you put on your foot.

If you get what I get (which it sonds like you do) these aren't cramps. It's an issue with shoe fit. It causes your instep to sit in a funny position and when you do certain movements it stretches funny. I would try some different shoes and try to replicate the situation, and see how that works out.

Yeah I agree. If the arch support isn't correct, you will get those under the foot.

This happened to me all the time when I did ballet. If it's not the fit of your shoe then it's probably a result of a lack of water and/or potassium. Make sure you're drinking enough fluids and eat a banana =)

Well in my opinion instead of focusing on working out greatly one should reflect on what is the proper way. I go to a well known fitness center and workout under guidance of fitness expert.
