Does Anyone do any Martial Arts to stay in shape?

Just wondering. I prefer to stay out of the gym and away from the redundancy of lifting weights. I have been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Submission Wrestling, & Freestyle wrestling for the past few years and find that it does a very good job of toning me up as well as strengthening my core and cardio.

My next arts I want to delve into are Muey Thai and Yoga.

Do any of you do any sort of martial art to stay in shape?

Does Body Combat gym class count? The muay thai tracks in that are my favourite.

I used to do kick boxing but quit because it made me more agressive, I wanted to punch and kick everyone who annoyed me.

And my dad is a qi qong (similar to tai chi) master and has been practicing for as long as I can remember. Us kids were never patient enough to learn from him, which I fully regret now. He just teaches me simple breathing exercises and pressure spots now when I feel off.

Does that count?

My room mate does that kind of stuff (MMA type fighting).

He is pretty fit I'd say and STRONG as hell!

I just started doing aikido twice a week, and it's an AWESOME workout! I am sore for a few days after each class, and always get sweaty. My boyfriend has been doing aikido for 10 years and when he has the time to go regularly he gets into great shape very quickly (though when he slacks for a few months the tum tum comes back, heh). I already notice that my legs are more toned after three weeks of classes, I have more of an appetite without any weight gain, and it is an amazing energy rush

I've been wanting to try Krav Maga for AGES!!!!

I have a bit of a short fuse when it comes to my temper so learning something like this may or may not be a good thing...

I am seriously thinking of taking uo Krav Maga. There is a Krava Maga school close to where I live. They have a beginer class this thursday and I think i am going to pop in for my free class then. I wanted to before but things just didn't work out.

I spoke to a guy who is a pro martial artist/fighter yesterday about Krav Maga and he said that it is an excellent workout, plus it teaches you how to handle yourself in real life situations.

I've been doing Tae Kwon Do for 4 years now and not only is it a good cardio workout, I have learned so many self defense techniques. We practice defense against all kinds of attacks and they actually work, some guy grabbed my lapel one time trying to act tough and I grabbed his wrist, and dropped him to the floor in 3 seconds, I'm very glad I learned Tae Kwon Do.
