I joined curves today! :)

After seeing how incredible Lawgal looks and knowing her experience with them, I went and joined curves today. I hope to be looking like a hot mama like the rest of you before I leave for Japan.

I finally am able to admit that I am an emotional eater. When I feel stressed I feel like I am always snacking and I can't stand the way i look anymore. Plus, being up here at my parents house, I have help with the kids until we leave and motivation! And my Mom really doesn't keep junk food in the house. So as long as I resist buying any, I think I'll be good to go shortly!

I really hope to see some results in a month, even if it is just feeling better about myself.

Anyway, thanks Liz for the inspiration!

Yay Alex! I'm so happy for you....and you're right, no junk food at your mom's house. Putting aside how you think you look....this will be great for your mental health. You have help with the girls now, and it will be much needed time to yourself.

Woo! Congrats!

I have a Curves that is literally a 5 minute WALK from my apartment. I have always considered joining up. Maybe I will now!

I went today, it was great. Half way through the first circuit, I was working up a sweat and I could feel my heart rate picking up. It was really great. I felt a little silly but the trainor lady was very friendly and encouraging and there were only a couple of other ladies there.

She took my weight and all my measurements and I've set a goal to lose at least 10 lbs but I would love to lose 20 lbs. I know I need to set a reasonable goal though. Hopefully within 6 wks I can accomplish my first goal.

Anyway, whoever else is thinking about doing this, I highly recommend it. All the ladies who were doing the circuit were so friendly and seemed happy to be there. You can push yourself and get more of a workout. And you can feel your muscles being worked.

I'm excited to go back tomorrow.

my curves is about to upgrade to new, more difficult machines. This should crank the workout up a good 5 notches! I haven't lost anymore inches, but I haven't been too regular either. I went 2 days this week but that is better than none!

That's great Alex!

Liz, that's cool that they're upgrading the machines. Are you maintaining your weight even thought you're not going as often?

Yes, I have maintained since about October. I always wonder what I would look like or what size I would be if I had stuck to it hard core! I am just not obsessed with working out and I actually think that is not a bad thing! I don't freak about how much I eat but manage and maintain by making good choices.

I would, however, love to take the easy road out and just get it lipo'd out--on my abs and hips! It just looks so UNNATURAL if you get lipo on one spot and not another. I would have to do from the waist to the knees for it to suit me!

Congrats on joining curves! I've been a member of a Ladies Workout Express (similar) for a couple of years and love it. While I didn't lose weight, my cholesterol took a huge dive, from 155 to 105!

Lawgal:
I actually have a consult with a PS in about two weeks to see about my baby tummy. No matter how many crunches I do, it doesn't go away. I just have one little area around my belly button and a bit below it that irritates me. Don't think I'm a candidate for a tuck, as there isn't that much there.....but think they could suck it out too. Guess I'll be finding out soon!

I was in RI all of last week for a conference so I went to one near the base and it was a bit different than the one near my parents. The first day there was kind of tough but it might have been because I was sitting in class from 7:30 to 5 I'm used to chasing my kids around all day long, not just sitting and listening to lectures

I'm still loving it. Try to get it over with in the first half of the day though. For some reason, I have my mind set that I will burn more calories doing a working out in the a.m. :

I did try on my TR's today and they basically can come off without unbuttoning. Maybe it is just in my mind but it excites me nonetheless!

I start tomorrow! I hope that I have a good experience! A friend of my moms had belonged to curves and she got really bulky. Has anyone had that experience?

I am the same way...I'm not that good about exercising but I make good eating choices. As far as the lipo I am really starting to consider it. I just don't think at my age it will be possible to get my body to where I want it and I think lipo would be a great thing for me. I would have to do the same, waist to the knees.

Alex, I think it's awesome you're going to Curves and that it's making you happy. Personally, I think the half of it is how working out makes you feel.

I don't want to get bulky. I'm not seeing any bulky-ness yet (granted it has only been 2 weeks)
I think maybe : it depends which point you are starting out at??? I haven't excercised in quite some time and I was also not doing well with eating healthy and snacking too much So I think just getting my body moving is going to help get rid of the excess weight before it starts getting bulky...

You must let us know though, how you like it!!! I'm still very excited about it and I'm feeling good

I agree. They say once you start working out you are more careful with the things you eat and that is half my battle. Emotional eating I actually notice it now. I was with hubs all of last week and then the long weekend and today is his first day back to class away from us and I'm feeling like just munching on stuff. I have a seltzer water instead, hoping the bubbles will fill that grumble in my belly.

sorry for the novels.................

^Oh I am a total snacker, but I have to be conscious of what I snack on. I always think of fresh crisp veggies as a great snack to fill that grumbly feeling. I'm craving celery with peanut butter now!

Alex, have you ever tried keeping a food diary? Not even tracking calories or anything, just writing down what you eat. I'm doing that now, after a rather large weight gain between my last two OB appts I just started Monday, and I'm noticing a difference in my snacking already. Over the weekend, in about one day, I ate almost a whole bag of SweeTart Hearts among other junk, and I'm pacing myself more now that I'm writing everything down. And I mean EVERYTHING, down to the 1-2 bites I may take of a waffle while I'm cutting it up for DS's breakfast LOL I'm also tracking how much water I'm drinking per day, so I know if I'm doing well with that. Anyway, just a thought, as I tend to be an emotional eater as well, munching when I'm bored/sad/etc. I've been doing this since childhood, and it's really a tough habit to break!

That's a very good idea!

I started Curves tonight. It went pretty well. Everyone was very nice and the workout seemed to be a good one. Here's hoping!

Yay Melissa! I hope each class gets better. Did you find it worked your muscles at all? I noticed that I have to push/pull harder to hear the swooshing noise and when I do I really feel it in the muscles. Today I told the instructor that I really need to lose the weight in my thighs so she got me back on the machine and pushed me to get that noise and THEN I really felt it work.

Aswin, That is a very good idea. It would be good to track it on paper. Since the girls and I have been staying up at my Mom's though, there isn't much to snack on so the temptation isn't that great at all (granted I could just hop in the car and go to the supermarket) and I've been trying to drink more water (also, seltzer water seems to curb the apetite too) But I really like your idea of a journal. I'm going to start one.

On an other note, I stepped on the scale today, against my better judgment I probably should have waited until I was back at Curves to do it, so I would get the exact same scale but I didn't lose any weight yet A little discouraging but then I reminded myself it has ONLY been 2 1/2 weeks and I just need to keep going because I have done the damage to my body over a much greater time.
