I tried to go for a run this morning

Well, I decided to turn in early last night so I could wake up this morning and go for a jog/run for the first time in ... almost a year.

I made it for about eight minutes (including working up to a jogging pace).

UGH.

I loathe running. It makes my boobs & my ass hurt like hell & my uterus feels like it's gonna fall right out on the ground, not to mention the twisting guts, burning chest, & sharp stabbing pains in my side like someone decided that the space between my 9th & 10th ribs was a good place to store their viking axe.

Um ... first of all, LOL.

Yeah, I was in pain towards the end of my short-lived run. But I know I can get back into shape, I used to be able to go for at least 30 minutes on the treadmill (granted, I wasn't using any of those fancy functions that would emulate going up and down slopes on the treadmill) ...

Toronto also isn't, you know, the healthiest of all places to run. Where I am it isn't too bad because I'm not too close to any industrial areas ...

I'm going to try to go at least three days a week, more if I can make myself do it!

I actually was a long-distance runner in my pre-baby years...cross country, road races, etc.

I want to start up again...I love running...sorry Marilee!!

I agree, the first mile is the hardest.

Thats okay, everyones gotta start, or start back up somewhere, alittle bit at a time, its how all things physical are built.

Also remember that fitness, including bulking, cutting, or endurance is 60% diet, 30% training and 10% diet.

PS: gains come with consistency, those weekend warriors you see in the gym doing total body workouts for 4 hours 2 days a week look the same after a year for a reason, haha.

^ Yeah, I've got to work on the diet part. That's one thing my personal trainer always gave me a lot of flak about ... >.<

Up to about 15 minutes, including starting up and slowing down.

One thing I've forgotten about running is that ... it makes me really horny.

What was your time? Mine aren't great, I'm working on beating 25. I did one today, it was like 25:18

Korobatsu, just give it a few weeks. I thought I was going to die at the beginning of the xc season, as I haven't played sports in a while and did no running at all over the summer. My knees were hurting constantly, and still do albeit less. Now I can do like 6 mi no problem. I've come to like the long, slow runs. Its the short fast ones that kill

As for diet, avoiding fried foods and dairy seem to be the big things. As long as I stay away from that my stomach isn't too bad. Lots of carbs help, so try pasta and some lean meat (chicken is good) for protein. Bananas help get rid of cramps too. Keeping hydrated is probably the most important thing though. I notice a huge difference when I drink a lot of water the day before a race. It won't make you faster, but it will make things much easier

Thanks a million for the diet tips. I love everything that's bad for me (the other night I had a pound of hot wings and deep fried pickles AS A MEAL), I think I really do need a change there!

I am definitely keeping it up! I've gone almost every second morning since my first post.

lol, yeah, don't do that

The worst diet choice I made was definitely to eat a plate ful of mozzarella sticks before a 5 mile practice. Nothing like fried cheese to give you tons of phlegm and horrible stomach pains at the same time

I despise exercise. I really do. Especially running. Every now and then, since I am trying to lose weight, I do it. I still fucking loathe it with every fiber of my being.

Ugh I would kill to be able to go running. Fucking injuries. All you people struggling to run a kilometer or two - at least you can run at all. I'm stuck indoors doing spinning and the elliptical. (Apparently rollerblading in my school town is dangerous, as evidenced by the scars on my chin and m knee!)

I'm so lucky that at least I enjoy exercise though. I used to find exercise for the sake of exercise boring, but I told everyone I loved it and now I do. I've always liked dance and team sports (soccer, field hockey) though, so it's not really that much of a stretch.

I've just started to work out again.

GOOGLE this: From couch to 5 k. It gives a step by step daily routine to having your running 3 miles in just a few weeks/months.
