Home Gym: Do you use it?

I am thinking about buying an eliptical/bike or something to use inside the house. We just canceled our gym membership because we literally hadn't used it in a year. The gym is about 25 minutes away so it was just too much of a hassle. So we are looking at our options.... Well what do you have? Do you use it? Is it worth it? Until we buy something we are going to borrow a spinner bike from my MIL and see how we like it.

i say go for it. i have a treadmill, an exercise bike and a bench press and free weights...granted i only ever use the treadmill, but i cant work out in public because im too self conscious so a home gym was the way to go. so im in favor of them lol

I have an elliptical in my apartment. When I first got it, it collected dust. But then I started using it everyday. I also do a series of at home workout dvd programs.

I bought an Sole elliptical about a year ago and love it. I went to Sears to check out their machines and they were so cheap and not sturdy at all. Then I went to Dicks and tried out their machines and was sold. The Sole feels more like a piece of gym equipment and not a cheap POS for your home. In fact, Sole makes a lot of machines for hotels and what not. Go to Dicks and try them out, but if you buy get it from the company direct because they won't charge you to ship it. BTW, they also have treadmill/elliptical combos that are priced really well.

This is the one I bought. It really was worth the extra money.

I've never been a fan of gyms - though I understand some people's preference toward the social aspect, I'd rather do my workouts in peace. I used to have a treadmill, stationary bike, and universal system in my home. But now I just have free weights, and I take to the streets to get my running time in (I enjoy an outside run even on cold days). Never looked back to the gym!

Jasmine, why don't you just cycle? The weather in Northern CA is perfect to cycle all year round. It is better for you to get outside to exercise, away from the stresses of the home and be by yourself in peace for a while.

Also, you can add a trailer for the baby at any point too.

If you already have a bicycle just purchase a magnetic trainer ($100) and hook the bike up to it. I use mine everyday when the weather is bad and they cost less/take up less space than an elliptical. Figure 30-40minutes on it and 30 minutes of dumbbells = your time to/from the gym and you're much better off.

Yes, we have a home gym with various pieces of equipment.

We do use it b/c it's super convenient to just go to it. Less time and hassle then going out to a gym.

Easily, you can get a good workout with an elliptical or bike and some dumbells. We have a lot of equipment but those are all you probably need.

LMK if you need recommendations on brands.

I have a Sole Elliptical and Windsor Pilates DVDs that I use regularly. I also have dumbells of various weights, excercise bands, P90 DVDs, and some other randomness that I rarely use.

I agree with Brody; if your weather allows, get outside and BIKE! I love cycling but in good ol' Buffalo, NY, there are only a few short months where the weather and roads allow it Not to mention, my area is FREAKIN' HILLY A 10 mile ride takes me nearly an hour and I am POOPED afterwards Its a great way to end the day though. I usually put the boys to bed and go for a ride (Sam is obviously home ) I'm usually done just as its getting dark. I hit the shower and then call it a night...you'll sleep like a log!

ETA...
With having a little one at home; a home gym is TOTALLY worth it! You cut out on the time it takes to get to and from the gym and a lot of the times I work out while while I'm home alone with the boys and they are napping or asleep for the night. No need to count on any one for child care Speaking of which...I should get off of the computer and go hit the elliptical

I have a treadmill for when the weather is way too hot or wet for me to jog outside. I used to have an elliptical but I prefer jogging instead. I have it set up in a spare room in front of the tv lol

Thanks for all the input. We are borrowing that spinning bike tomorrow. See how that goes.

Brody, I think you are thinking of a different northern California. Its rains here ALL the time. Think oregon.

Hello everyone. I have also a small gym at home and i love to do workout there. I always like to do workout at home in my personal gym. I think it is best to have a gym at home so people should have a gym.

I never join any gym for the workout purposes.
I do all of my exercises at my home or in a ground.
I do only cardio exercise, so there is no need of gym to do these cardio exercises.

Yeah. I am totally agree with you. I also think that there is no need to join any gym. If you want to loss your weight then you should just take some cardio exercise. According to me swimming or cycling is best exercise.
