How to get rid of lower back fat?

My lower waist is HUGE because I have this disgusting awful muffin-top back fat mess that will not go away, no matter what I do. There aren't any muscles in this region. What the hell can I do to get rid of it? Even when I was at my thinnest this crap was still here. They're like love handles but on my back. wtf. I'm so sick of it that I've started recently almost-seriously considering lipo. Is there any way to get rid of this region of fat that you know of? I hate it sticking over every pair of jeans I own, and having to readjust the waistband of my jeans every time I stand up. And, if I buy to fit my enormous waist, the rest of me is engulfed and I hate for my jeans to fit big. Ugh! Halp please!

I had this problem too! No matter how skinny I was, I would always have back fat. I was "skinny fat." I was skinny, but NEVER worked out so I was fat at the same time, if that makes sense? I started doing cardio/strength training four days a week and I've seen a HUGE difference in the back fat area. Hope that helps!

There is an exercise my trainer taught me with use of a medicine ball. I hope this makes sense..
-Hands on the floor close to the ball with your chest and belly on the ball
-Then your legs lift up towards the ceiling. Make the movement slow and concentrated or you will fall off like I have
You will feel it, trust me.

I'm no expert, but I really think Yoga/Pilates has been helping me in that area. One exercise that I think really helps (because I can feel it) is:

Lay face down on the floor ( a yoga mat is really nice to stay comfy)
Put arms in a diamond shape and rest one hand on top of the other.
Pull your belly in toward your spine
Cross your legs one over top the other, almost mimicking the shape of your arms.
Lift your legs up off the floor and hold for 3 seconds, slowly release.

I repeat this 30 times and I honestly think I see results.

Jamie, I wonder if I can do that leaning on something other than a ball, like my couch? My other problem is that I do not have time to go to the gym and go to school, finish school work, and spend time with my kid, plus I'm too cheap to pay for a gym membership. Also the reason I stopped walking/running lately because it's WAY too cold to take a baby out for a stroll. Especially when he's too big to stay snuggled in a blanket. But I have tried what you're talking about, Mariahh. I do that sometimes, but I mainly feel that exercise in the middle of my lower back and my ass cheeks. I learned it as you raise your legs up and criss-cross your legs 3 times, and then lower. That is not easy! haha! But I think I have started feeling a little doing these side-lunges and extending one arm above and letting the other hang so that the obliques/back muscles are doing all the work holding my body up. Maybe I'll just do a lot of that. Thanks!

Workout Myth #1.

Target fat loss.

This is not really something possible. The body does not work like that. It loses fat from certain places in an almost pre programmed manner. that link isn't really a peer reviewed source and if it comes down to it I will get on the research machine and find you a scientific paper on the topic. I hate when so called trainers/supplement stores perpetuate this myth. Weight loss is a calorie in vs. calorie out equation for the most part. I am sure you can figure out what needs to be what to get the desired results. That is a dramtic oversimplification but holds mostly true in the long run.

^ Yeah I understand this as far as weight loss goes... I am just saying that no matter how much fat or weight I lose, I always have these disgusting back lovehandles.

So what you're saying is lipo is the way to go? It's looking more and more that way.

Actually I guess technically yes it is. There are a certain amount of fat cells present in your body and as storage of fat increases the size of the fat cells increase and vice versa. The formation of fat cells is mostly finished by the end of puberty. If an area is stubborn you may need to alter your exercise regimen and diet to acheive the desired results but may never totally get rid of it from a certain area.

Have your tried a jumping rope exercises? I've read that will do good. Otherwise, you may also reduce your overall body fat percentage and increase your calorie burn with more physical activities.
