Best headphones to workout with?

So music is pretty much my only motivation at the gym. If I'm not listening to anything, I'm pretty lazy at the gym.
I usually sweat a lot when I'm on the elliptical, and I hate having to fix my headphones every minute because they always fall out.. it gets really annoying!!

What type of headphones do you use at the gym? And are they unnoticeable to you/good staying inside the ear?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

For me personally, I need to use the ones that have the rubber earpieces, not the foam ones that you need to smoosh before you put them in. That kind was always sliding out.

I used to use a pair of Shure SCL3's in the gym. Really nice headphones, came with about 12 different types of earpieces. Not the biggest bass response on the planet, but incredibly clear and accurate. Technically they're "in-ear monitors" for musicians...like when they're on stage, so they can get a mix of the band send directly to their earphones.

HOWEVER, since I got them...about a year ago, the right earbud has stopped working. And I've freaking babied these things. Don't seem to be the strongest things in the world. Definitely not for the 150 dollars they are normally. Can't seem to find the freaking receipt so I can get them repaired under warranty either.

If you're OK with an over-ear pair, there's always the Sennheiser PX 100. That's what I'm using right now, actually...until I get a better pair of in-ears. They make an around-the-back-of-the-head version as well, the PMX 100. Awesome fidelity for a pretty damned low price. These headphones do bleed a little bit, though, so if you want a bit more isolation from outside noise then the closed back model, the PX 200/PMX 200 might be the better choice. From what I hear though, what you gain in outside noise reduction you lose in fidelity.

The Bose Triport in-ear headphones are bunk for workouts. Too bass heavy and muddy for my tastes, and they don't stay in place very well during exercise. I'd recommend skipping those.

I've had good luck with Sennheiser in the past, I'm hesitant on recommending Shure's products due to my experience with them. I'm interested to hear other's opinions as well.

*edit*

There's an interesting product out From H2O audio, the "Surge" series of headphones. Supposed to be submersible, water-proof headphones that actually sound good. Go figure.

I jumped on that train a while back with a 512MB "Freestyle Audio" Mp3 player and headphones. It worked, but...eh...not very well. Awful sound. I've read a few glowing reviews of the Surge models though. I do a lot of swimming in the summer...so it makes sense for me ;).

Sennheiser PMX80 behind the ear sport headphones stay in place really well for running on a treadmill. They are not the most comfortible in the ear, but not horrible either.
My older pair is Sony MDR-Q55, they clip on and are very comfortible for me, although don't stay on as well as the Sennheiser.

^woah, $3.33 plus free shipping.

I forgot to mention, I bought Skullcandy ear buds and absolutely hated them! The slightest touch on the cord, breathing etc, will resonate through to your ears and will be louder than the music. It is like wearing a stethoscope.

I'm a little hesitant with a set that's sold as cheaply as that...then again, I'm a musician, and have ridiculously high standards for sound reproduction .

I've never been impressed with skullcandy's stuff. Tried a super aural pair that my boss has...yicck. Throughly uninspiring.

A lack of cable microphonics is a big deal when looking for something to use while exercising...since the cable is going to be moving around a lot.

^Have you tried the ink'd ear buds the Skullcandy puts out? I love them. Great sound, IMO. But then again I'm not a musician and can only compare to ipod ear buds. They also stay put.

I personally love Skull candy Product... I started with the inkd then I moved up to the titan, then the fmj or full metal jacket and now I have the fmji which has the mic for the iphone. the sound quality is amazing and their warranty is unreal. Every pair that has broken whether my fault or not they replaced them for free just send them back... I must have sent my inkd in 5 or 6 times over the past 4 years ... and the fmj a couple times too..

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

I have been reading other forums, and I've read that Sennheiser is pretty good. I think I might give them a try, thank you! I just hope I don't have to turn my ipod to full blast at the gym cause my battery drains pretty fast. I'm using the Sony sport over-the-head headphones, and they slip out of my ears all the time. Not to mention sound will only work through one of the headphones, and I'll have to keep adjusting the cord so that it will go through both ears.

I actually have a pair of Skullcandy headphones, but they also kept falling out of my ears when I sweat, and plus I lost one of those plastic things for the ear . .. ^^ so good to know about that warranty! Thank you!!

Check out Ultimate Ears. They're awesome.

I have the Super.fi 3 but there are tons of different ones in different price ranges.

I was always going to say Skull Candy. My ex-bf always used those and got them cheap at Marshalls.

I now formally rescind my initial warning about shure earbuds. The problem with mine was a tiny amount of ear wax was interfering with the driver on the right side. Cleaning them out with the tool they supplied with the buds fixed it right up.

Guess that happens sometimes with in-ears.

I use in-ear headphones. Use to use Sony Ex-71's which died. Now I'm using Sennheiser CX-300's and Creative Ep-630's which are pretty much identical. These 2 earphones are tough as hell. I've ran and worked out with them for almost a year and they have yet to die after countless abuse. Highly recommended!
