Too lazy to workout?

So, I really need to start working out again. I feel too tired (or lazy?!) after I come home from work to exercise. Ick! Does anyone else have this problem? What is your motivation to get on the treadmill/bike/elliptical/go run/walk??? I think I might just need to get a small routine to fit into my evening. Any tips for a feel-good, good for you workout? How about any good workout tapes that keep you engaged and that are FUN?! Any suggestions are appreciated.

I workout before work...I never thought I could do it, but now I get up at 4:45 a.m so I can get my workout in at the gym before going to work. It's a great way to start the day, and I never skip it because I'm too tired.
If I try to work out at the end of the day, it's way too easy for me to cheese out because I'm tired, grumpy, etc.
As for easy workouts...one of the best ways to get cardio is just to go for a walk, fast enough to get your HR up. After doing that for a while, you could start incorporating intervals of running.
As far as efficiency in burning calories, I think the elliptical is the most bang for your buck.

I have an elliptical, too. But it's sooo boring...
I have a dance mat for the playstation. It's really fun. Also the Kinetics by Nike program for the playstation.
(not that I can bring myself to use any of this regularly!)

I am having the same problem right now. I try to go to the gym in the AM before work but sometimes i just don't get around to it. I have been sick too lately with a bout of bronchitis so i am finding that i REALLY lack energy when i get to the gym and get started.

But i am seriously thinking of getting one of those pole dancing kits for my house since i am pretty sure that would be fun.

Other then that i am also going to be doing a whole bunch of classes at the gym next week after work. I find that while a solo workout is great, sometimes going to a class with good music and an instructor really boosts my energy. I really hate cardio machines and right now it is too cold to go jogging/rollerblading/skiing/snowshoeing outside so the classes seem best. There is even a great weightlifting class that i am going to try.

Mornings or lunch time workouts work best for me as well. I have a hard time motivating myself after work. The only thing that worked for me was agreeing to meet a training partner for a workout cause I didn't want to flake or taking a really fun class. I used to take a hip hop dance class in the evening that worked on choreographed routines and I didin't want to miss and get behind on the steps.

A hip hop dance class sounds like soooo much fun. I wonder if they have anything like that around here! humm.... I'll have to check into that! I think that I'll need to find a workout buddy. That way I will have to go. Plus, my jeans are getting tight-- if that's not enough motivation I don't know what would be!!

I'm not a morning person, so getting up early and working out won't be for me. I guess I'll have to stick to evenings... maybe mornings on the weekends?!

Hip hop was a great class and my instructor was really good. Unfortunately, I changed gyms and she doesn't teach at the new place. Maybe you can get a friend to train for a 5k or 10k run with you. I can't stand treadmills, stairmaster type machines. Bored out of my mind in 5 minutes!

I love weekend morning workouts. Getting out there while everyone is still in bed is very relaxing. Is that a Golden Retriever in your avatar? If so, I have a goldy (hence my screen name) too and my weekend morning routine is to take him for a long walk and swim (for him) at the park.

In order for me to overcome the feelings of "I'm too tired to workout", I think about how great I feel after I do it and how much energy I have after. This helps to motivate me to go when I don't really feel like it.

Working out after work is pretty much out of the question, for the same reasons that others have already mentioned - too tired, grumpy, unmotivated, etc. Problem is, I am sooooooooooo not a morning person. Those of you that work out in the morning - how on earth do you do it? I literally HATE waking up, its the worst part of my day! Am I beyond help???

I used to hate waking up too but could never get myself motivated enough to go at the end of the day because i was too drained. Now, I get up and the first thing i do is go workout. I do not think about it at all. I practically roll out of bed and go to the gym to do the treadmill. If i do not give myself time to think about it then i wont talk myself out of it. Now i love going in the morning and the time i spend running, watching music videos, etc on the treadmill have become a necessary part of my day. I love the "me" time!!
I also suggest trying to get on a routine. If you get on a routine then waking up will not be as hard and soon you wont want to start your day without the workout! Hope that helps alittle!

I was NEVER a morning person either and then about 4-5 yearts ago i discovered weightlifting and rollerblading and i started a great routine with a great eating plan. I would get up early in the mornings at around 5, have a cup of coffee and then i would hit the gym for some weights. I really hate using cardio machines so after school/work i would go for a long walk/rollerblade/workout class for cardio. I did the 30-30-40 eating plan too: 30% carbs-30%fats-40% protien in 5-6 small meals a day.

I stopped doing it for a couple years but i just started again and i find that once you get going with it you feel a lot better and a lot more motivated.

I've been sick lately and my work/school load is crazy right now so i know how you feel about being lazy. And as bad as it sounds sometimes i nice cup of coffee first thing when you get up withh jump start you for the day so you can get to the gym.

Its all I can do to wake up in time to make it to class in the mornings...I can't imagine waking up before that and working out. I am taking an aerobics class this semester so I will be forced to work out at least 2 times a week. I definately don't feel like working out when I come home from work either cause my legs and feet hurt & i just feel like sitting down. What time do you get home from work? Maybe you could take a break for a few hours then go to the gym...

I know some people who have Dance Dance Revolution and I think that would be a fun way to work out, but frustrating if you are not good with the eye-feet coordination. I would try that before I watched workout videos, which don't really seem to interest me.

Well I am student teaching this semester. I did so last semester too. I tutor after school so I don't get home until 5pm. If I have lesson plans, etc to write that takes anywhere between 1-3 hours. The preparation eats up a lot of my time that could be for workouts.

I agree with you about feet/legs hurting. I don't feel like it either because of that!! ick! Maybe I will look into ddr or some aerobics classes. I bet that they come be fun if I got into a routine
