The reason that P90X is so effective is because it's INTENSE. It's a hard-core one hour workout each day, two a day if you're using the doubles program. When I was doing it I started to see results in a week or two, but for the full results it does take 90 days. I don't know for you specifically whether you could drop 20lbs before summer or not, but it would definitely help you tone up.
The only thing is that I stopped doing the workouts because I found it really hard to commit to working out on my own. It was way better than going to a gym, but still hard to motivate myself. I now dance 4x/week and run when I can, and I toss in a P90X workout when I can. If you're disciplined, though, go for it!
I know a ton of people on here have done it, so I'm sure some of the others have valuable input, too. | Well I probably would be "done" with the program midway into summer or around then. I might not be able to completely drop 20 lbs. between now and summer, but I'd get partway there. The only thing I'm worried about now, I guess, is the time-commitment.
You sound like you've been successful though!
