Has anyone tried the "Fat Loss 4 Idiots" plan?

I know the name is silly, bit I am curious if anyone has tried it.

It's a plan that you follow for 11 days at a time, followed by 3 days or "normal eating" and then start the 11 days again. You continue the cycle until you reach your goal weight.

Anyway, the reviews online are actually decent, which is surprising cause most diets get bashed pretty bad in online reviews.

I have never even heard of it but I have heard that diets like this with cheat days work well for some people. My sister in law does this. She eats really healthy, as healthy as she can, for 2 day and then takes a cheat day. She says that sometimes she doesnt need the cheat day but it is nice not to feel restricted all the time.

That's indeed idiotic. The only thing that really works in the long run is changing your diet to a healthier one and work out.

The best "diet" is eating healthy, in smaller portions and getting adequate exercise. Sure you can allow yourself "cheat" days but again those are all relative.

For me a cheat day is going out for sushi after kendo, or having a grass fed beef hotdog in an ezekial srputed grains hotdog bun.

^ I couldn't even find a "ezekial spruted grains hotdog bun" around here.

but i totally agree with Jenn. Diets are silly. Seriously.
The weight will not stay off unless you make a lifestyle change.

ITA.

the only reason any of these "diets" work is because they get you to actually track and think about what you are eating. it is not because they have come up with magical formula.

it's pretty simple actually.

food --> garbage in = garbage out. the healthier you eat, the better you are going to feel. 3500 calories = 1 pound.

calories in > calories out = weight gain
calories in < calories out = weight loss
calories in = calories out = weight maintenance

exercise --> aim for 10 minutes of exercise per day, then build your way up.

make small and reasonable changes at first and moderation is easy maintenance in my opinion.

If you eat enough shitty food for 3 days you will probably end up erasing any improvements you made for the 11 days you actually ate healthy.

How hard is it to just eat healthy? I used to eat like shit ... I do not miss it. After that I advanced to moderately healthy and then to really healthy. I still eat stuff that I like -- ice cream, bacon, pizza etc but in moderation.

If you just get in the mind set of eating healthy and regular exercise rather then going on the latest fad diet you will end up with better long term improvement/health.

I guess I should explain where I'm coming from so it will make more sense.

I generally eat very healthy: lean meats, whole grains, fruits/veggies, low fat dairy.

I am coming off a season of very busy travel for work where I had to eat out more than usual and didn't make the wisest choices, so I gained about 5-7 lbs that I'm trying to lose.

I think the "Fat Loss for Idiots" plan will give me a good kickstart to get back to my healthy eating habits.

Thanks for everyone's input.

I really don't think so. There shouldn't be a kickstart, just go back to your old good eating habits, cut down on calories a little, workout more.

I eat way better than I have in years. My problem is that if I love it,I will eat too much of it sometimes. Then there is the boredom of the cold months and my iced latte addiction. Ive still been able to stay within 118-120 pounds which is way better than 151. (im only 5'4)

Portion sizes are a huge factor too.

Smaller plates and bowls really help with portion control.

It'll probably work, my motto is 90% is still an A. I eat 6 meals a day, so that basically gives me 4 cheat meals a week, that way if I really want to have a pizza and beer like I did last night, I have it and don't worry about it too much. And today I'm back to my oatmeal for breakfast, fruit and cottage cheese for lunch, regualr eating and it's no big deal.

Paul where the eff have you been?!!!

I wish i could be like that. I eat well 98% of the time and when i don't eat well i am usually cheating with something that most people would consider to be healthy. But i do allow myself some good wine on occasion and maybe a beef here and there.

But then again, I turn into a cow at the thought of a carbohydrate.

Cheat meals can be good to help stop cravings if you do them once or twice a week and don't over indulge in what you are eating.

And don't be an idiot like me and do the velocity diet. I thought...great, i can have chocolate protein shakes for every meal...that should help my sweet cravings. Well after my first biotest shake i felt like i was going to hurl...happened again today at work. Don't know if it is the kind of protein or what that is making me feel sick.

I agree with most here - it's the long run of healthy eating, portion control an exercise that brings both weight management, health and feeling great! I know it takes discipline - but don't all truly good things? Any "diet" typically brings some quick results with not to good tailspins. I encourage healthy eating plans/diets - I do allow myself "cheat" times/splurges - this helps me stay the course and remain in it for the long haul!!
