Winter weight gain

I haven't lived in a cold place for very long. I've pretty much been dieting and losing weight all year. All of a sudden I'm starving all the time (no it's not that time of the month). I so don't want to gain weight this Winter. I exercise 6 days a week and eat really healthy, but I am eating more now and have already gained 3 pounds. I on't want to starve myself, but I refuse to let myself gain any more weight. Any advice?

So if you're exercising 6 days a week and eating healthy...?

Whats wrong again?

You have to figure out what causes weight gain for you personally and make changes. Some people need to keep their carbs early in the day and go to eating 6X a day instead of 3 meals so your blood sugars stays regulated. A lot of people that gain weight do not have good eating habits although they think they do. You have to look at how your preparing your food, how much you eat out ect. and make changes from there. Although you have gained 3 lbs, are your clothes tight? If they are a change in workout routine might be what you need. If not you could be losing fat and gaining muscle. You can't rely totally on a scale.

Are you doing any weight or resistance training? Have you noticed your measurements increase or just the weight at the scale?

fill up on water or broth. I find it helps alot when I get the munchies (usually that time of the month when I find myself dreaming of stuffing my face with carbs).

You are most likely gaining weight because, as you said, you are starving yourself and working out so much. I know that somehow it doesn't make sense but that's how the body responds to starving... which is building up fat deposits to be ready for another period of starvation

Thanks

I appreciate everyones advice and knowledge. I have been doing more weight lifting lately, so hopefully it is muscle. But, every since its gotten cold here I've just been starving. Broth is a great idea because its warm. I'm going to try that. Today, I've had slimfast for late morning snack, leftover mahi mahi for lunch, an apple and some grapes. BTW, I haven't been starving myself to lose weight. I've lost 75 pounds in the last year and a half. I will always be worried about gaining back. My Dr. told me my cholesterol was really high and I was pre diabetic. Not anymore!!! My physical this year showed dramatic decrease in cholesterol and all that other stuff. So my weight loss is a medical issue, that's why I'm so worried about it. Thanks Again!!!

You shouldn't waste your money on slim fast. It is the equivalent of a small glass of milk (unsweetened soy would be better), half a banana and a multivitamin.

Congrats on your weight loss.

I live in a colder climate and it is just natural for me to eat more in the winter because the body does work harder to stay warm. However I still exercise and eat healthy, but if I don't eat enough, I either plateau or gain weight because my body is in starvation mode.

Just continuing eating a balanced diet and exercising but if you feel slightly hungry, eat something till you are satisfied and make sure you eat enough at meals where you are satisfied, but not feeling stuffed.

Why would I be?
A good miso soup or even just plain chicken broth really does help satiate cravings.
I'm not asking her to replace her meals with it, I'm just saying that if you find yourself eating regular meals and still snacking all the time this might help.
so what's with the attitude?

That is great you were able to loose 75lbs in a year and a half! And it sounds like you have done it through healthy eating and exercise which is really good.

Like everyone here said, if you are weight training, you may be putting on muscle, which as most know actually weighs more then fat does. I have put on about 5lbs myself since i started working out 6 days a week with heavy weights but my body fat percentage has dropped. The scale is good to look at but it needs to be used in conjunction with body fat percentage tests as well as actual measurements (and pay no attention to the BMI index).

I would stop the slim fast and replace it with a protein shake (i do pea protein because i have a dairy intolerance). Have your shake first thing in the morning along with complex carbs such as brown rice of quinoa. I usually try to get most of my carbs in around morning or afternoon and i do proteins and fats in the evening.

Food wise, it is okay if you are hungry...and it is okay to eat. But there is a heirchy of eating.

1) What you are eating
2) when you are eating it
3) how much you are eating

If you feel hungry, your body is telling you that you need food...so it is okay to snack on things. I try to have 5-6 meals a day, breakfast being the largest meal with the meals getting progressively smaller into the evening. Snacks such as carrots, trail mix or really good protein/whole fruit bars are great snacks that keep you feeling full. To maintain your weight if you are at the gym or working out 6 days a week for an hour or more a day you need at least 2000 good for you calories per day.

It is normal to feel hungrier in the wintertime and yes, things like broth with brown rice or really good chicken/lean beef chili are great healthy meals that keep you warm!

Okay i am done confusing you now.
