mutha f*cker- hurt my arm & cant lift weights :( - any suggestions for alternatives??

Lovely. Roughly a month to go before my wedding (and that strapless dress) and just as I was about to really ramp up my workout, I injure my arm. How? No clue! That's the frustrating part. The ortho said it sounded like tennis elbow but I think he's wrong (lol, yeah like I'm a doctor or something myself). The problem is I get a blindingly painful, stabbing pain in the meat of my forearm only when I do certain motions (pull up my shirt, put on a necklace, put my hair up, etc.) and no I don't play tennis or golf. If the pain doesn't go away in 2 weeks I have to have an MRI but still, the order is the same- absolutely no weight lifting for 4 weeks.

All I can come up with to work my upper body is swimming (but even that is pushing it as he sort of told me not to do ANYTHING that was really working my arm). Can anyone think of anything else I can do?? Sigh, I'm totally bummed out about this.

I don't have much to tell you, but let me just give you a piece of advice. About 2 months ago, I tore my rotator cuff and dislocated my shoulder, I didn't want to take the doctor's advice b/c I was a total gym rat so I kept working out in a kind of half-assed way. BIG MISTAKE. It took much, much longer for me to get back to normal, with physical therapy, etc. and it still hurts sometimes, although I havent done any kind of upper body work since then. If you are wanting to do cardio/core stuff, I cannot recommend spinning enough, as that is what got me through the period when I couldnt even lift my arm, but please, you will thank yourself if you just let it get better asap instead of irritating it.

lol. will stop preaching now. sorry. have you talked to a physical therapist? they may be able to give you some toning/workouts specifically tailored to your injury if you really want to do upper body stuff. good luck!

I'm with Julia. See if he'll refer you to a PT and see if they can give you any excercises you can do. If your doc said no excercising, I'd listen or you risk effing your arm up even more for longer. You're going to look amazing at your wedding no matter what - do you really want to be in pain the whole day because you pushed it working out??

Sounds like tennis elbow. I have had that for a long time. Never played tennis or golf either. It really started bothering me when I started working out. I tried to work through it and my shoulder got messed up because it was overcompensating for the elbow. However, once I got stronger they both got better. I wouldn't recommend working through the pain when the injury is fresh though. Wear a brace.

^I'll look into a brace geebs sounds like a good idea.

And yeah you guys are right, sigh, I really should just take his advice and not do anything. It's just so hard for me to sit still!! lol. I'll look into spinning classes though. I've never taken that before but I know it kicks your *ss.

^ya they are great! its really easy on your arms/shoulders, but it really works your abs and legs, so you get almost a total body workout. Just be sure to have someone who knows what they are doing set up your bike for you the first time, it is easy to hurt yourself if you have never done it before.

Hope your arms feels better

I would rest your arm because otherwise you will just make the injury worse. I think swimming is a good idea just because the water can help support the joint.

Just continue exercising other parts of your body that won't require the use of your arm so you can continue to stay fit and healthy. Good luck

There are tons of stuff you can do. Run, ride a bike, or the stairmaster. For weight lifting, you can still work out your legs. After all, it is half of your body.

I don't think that not working out for 4 weeks will really have that great of an effect on your overall health/appearance. But then again i dont know you
