How much does your gym membership cost?

Just went to an Xsport Fitness today to get a tour, it looked like a very nice place. Rock climbing wall, pool, basketball court, salon, etc. but it seemed really expensive for a gym membership. It came out to be $196 up front with a $125 "processing and handling fee" (please...) and the first and last monthly payments which are $35.50 each, then it's pay-as-you-go at $35 a month.

Plus you can buy extra things like personal training sessions at $65/hr , tanning sessions, etc. at Is this about average for a gym membership? How much do you all pay? And is anyone here a member at Xsport? Thanks

Not a member of Xsport but when I was going to the gym in MD it cost me $55 for the startup fee and $45 a month. After adding up the total price in a year I just invested in my own treadmill, bike, and weight set.

For personal trainers, each person set their own price and I was paying $35/session(1 hr) but the lady decided to increase her price to $50/hr so I dropped her. Then you had others who charged between $35-$100/hr. All of the bootcamp classes were extra, like $220 for 3x/wk for four weeks and then you had to pay extra for them to babysit your kids.

$38/month with no start up or other fees. 24 hrs, 2 floors - 1 for machines, 1 for free weights, cardio room, swimming pool, pretty much any type of class you can think of available. squash courts available for use for small extra monthly fee. tanning, personal training, towel service, etc all extra

No start up fee but $67 a month. Largest gym chain in Sweden and my membership is cheap! If I were to sign up today it would be at least $78 a month. One hr with a personal trainer is $82. The price gets lower if you buy more sessions at a time. 30 hrs cost $1900. Yay, Swedish prices.

^^ holy crap, europe is expensive!!!

I pay $49/month (that's a low rate... currently their rates are $60/month). My gym has three floors, free towel service, TVs on all the machines, a swimming pool, lots of classes, etc. It gets horribly overcrowded sometimes, but I try to work out late at night when there aren't too many people around.

I used to have the best rate at NYSC- a $49/month student fee which I just kept renewing even though I was no longer a student. When I moved I tried to switch locations but they found out I wasn't a student and ended my discount. Now I'm at a better gym with everything in it at a rate of $57/month which I think is faaaaantastic for my area. Most PT sessions around here range from $65 - $100 a session I would say so sounds like your place is pretty average. The start up fees are awful though. That's one of the reasons why I will never join Bally's or any of those places that do that to you. It's ridiculous!

$24 bucks a month for citywide facility use. Personal training is 30 bucks a session or 25 bucks if you buy 5 sessions upfront. This is west texas, after all....

^ That is how much it is for my husband per year. And for me it is only $20 a year. (At 24 Hour Fitness)

We signed up about 6 years ago when they were doing a promo. We had to pay for 3 years up front (something like $600 per person if I remember right) but then we are locked into the cheap rates forever as long as we renew each year. Oh and when we signed up it came with 12 Personal Training Appointments.

It sure makes me feel less guilty if I forget to go for a few months.

When I was at Golds Gym, it was $50/month. My current gym membership is included with my tuition at school so I do not have to pay monthly, which is nice.

I don't think we paid a start up fee. Maybe first and last?

$38/month for family membership (me and hubby)

Plus I love the daycare... it costs $2 for daycare for 1.5 hours. That is why I go so much Gives me a break for cheap! And my son loves it. He literally doesn't even turn around to say bye. He has also cried when we leave.

i pay around $40/month which includes access to equipment, classes & a trainer once a month. i forget how much my start-up fee was since it's been 5+ years, but i would guess around $100-$200.

^I also belong to Fitness19...it's clean and new. $12/month
I also belong to Bally's (it's like $50/year since i did lifetime membership and paid $78/month for 3 years) so I keep renewing and take spin classes there
Then I belong to 24hour Fitness for the TKB classes and hiphop classes - that's $24/month - I had my initiation fees waived since I was added on to my brother's plan.

Maybe she moves around a lot like I do. Sometimes I would rather just drive 5 miles to the gym rather than 20. The gym closest to my house sucks ass but sometimes I go there just to do cardio on the days I don't lift.

hehe...Fitness19 is walking distance from my house and on my "lake run route" so I can run and then lift weights and then go home (on weekends usually). Bally's- I used to take the hip hop classes but I actually haven't been there in 3 months so I should cancel but its $50 a year and i figure when I move back East that will be really cheap in comparison to the rates I would get at another gym back there. As for 24hour - I love turbo kick box and I kinda follow the instructor I like around to different gyms. hehe

^That way you never get bored. I have a favorite kickboxing instructor and he teaches at 3 different gyms. He gives us free passes if we want to go.
