gary's raw denim journal picture heavy! [6/27/08]

hey everyone. i have 2 pairs of raw jeans right now, a true religion ricky, and a pair of uniqlo skinny. any tips and such would be appreciated. picture heavy! enjoy

TRUE RELIGION RICKYS retired for now(working on uniqlo, they seem to have a better potential for fading because they arent as baggy.)

march 30,2008- 2 months wear, 1 initial hotsoak

Nice combs on those uniqlos. Those TRs don't really look like they are going anywhere though! Why did you hot soak them before you started wearing them? Aren't they sanforized?

tr arent all loose. depends on the cut. mines were 2 sizes too big; if i got my own size they would have been PERFECT

1 month uniqlo-april 27

1 month update on uniqlo, the overall color became noticeably lighter. i was a little worried about these when i saw some people work on uniqlo with little results (4 months with almost no fading!) but these seem to be fading fine, even though the crotch seems to be giving out already;they are getting reinforcement in the crotch soon. enjoy! comments appreciated!

i have no idea why some of these are pink
the jeans really aren't this light, the light outside makes it look that way, they are still a dark indigo. here is a picture that most closely represents the color of the jeans

2 months

2 months for the uniqlo. they are getting worn down, they need repairs soon. the crotch has 2 holes formed and one of them is ripped. also the denim by the leg opening is ripped a little. the pocket and leg opening stitching came off a little. they started smelling alittle unfresh(dont know how else to describe) but i sprayed carpet cleaner on them and that worked wonders.

they are coming along pretty well for me, cant wait!

hot soaked the waist today for 1.5 hours. i wanted the waist to fit alittle better(they stretched out about 4 inches!) these are dyed pretty well, as they didnt bleed at all. in the end, the water was YELLOW from dirt. nasty!

drying now.

its basically the same because they are sanforized. the waist shrunk to maybe 32 waist but stretched back out by today. i decided to soak the whole jean, seeing how dirty the water got. the fading on the honeycombs werent prominent after the soak(it was starting to look GOOD) but it'll come back. everything is looking up

the soak did help with the fading. not much else to say for now. 3 months total, everyday wear. enjoy

thanks. and i didnt expect too much fading for 3 months. it IS only three months.

today i was completely soaked in the rain while biking. so the jeans got a second soak.(cold)
not good considering the first was only about 2-3 weeks ago, but its all part of the fun. not too worried since these are dyed pretty well.

The only question I have is how comfortable is dry denim? Will I be itching and scratching all day?

they are just like any other pair of jeans, cotton. it all basically feels like same.
i highly doubt anyone would wear jeans that made them itch/scratch all day

Comfort isn't exactly the first priority with some of the japanese brands

Maybe not, but slubby, stiff, heavy, denim with a 40" inseam doesn't feel very nice. I'm guessing thats where his conception of uncomfortable itchy jeans came from
