Coni's Dry Denimology [New Update-12/7/08]

The main course -Pure Blue Japan xx-005
08-03-08

All photos of the fit displayed above are pre-soak. As of now, they have just finished their bath and are drying in my room as to allow for ample amounts of staring and ogling. Once they are actually dry, I will get to posting some post-soak photos. Yes, this is the xx-005. I am sort of tiring of bootcuts these days, in favor of the straight-leg. In that sense, these jeans are perfect. You guys are, for the most part, no strangers to this brand. Very fine pair of jeans. I look forward to jumping into them when they dry.

Post-soak:

They were soaked in a hot bath for approximately an hour and hung dry for the evening. the waist shrunk from about 31.5" to a very comfortably snug 30". They lost about 2.5" in length, and significantly less in the thighs. This is everything a straight-leg should be and the denim's texture is wonderful to the touch. My best purchase in awhile.

The other photos have not been deleted, but rather, relocated and it may take awhile to get some links up. In the mean time, all the old Ola and Ralf pictures can be found in the Nudies thread.

09-8-08:

A little over a month.

Two months or so...

Post soak Details:

Three month fit pics:

no washes, one soak.

4 months

6 months, two washes

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

7months (or so)

The top photo is the most consistent with the actual patina. Last set for a little while. I really want to go for a full year on these but the desire for a new pair has been pretty strong as of late (Imperial, Atelier LaDurance, who knows). We'll see...

Those look nice. I think may have to get a pair in addition to my other crap. Which photo would you say most accurately represents the color?

Yea, greycasts. I had been wanting some for...awhile. And yea, I am left-handed and correspondingly put my wallet in the left rear. The right just feels all wrong.

Monarchy, a brand I only heard about recently, evidently is a reputable jean label. That's neither here nor there, but what was interesting is that they have a handful of raw options which I snatched for an interesting price.

The pockets are a little...loudish, but whatever. Not sure what to expect from them, but I like the fit (though I had to damp stretch the inseam a bit and they are still a bit shorter that I would like). We'll see how these progress.

*edit* The monarchy's are, for better or for worse (though almost certainly the former), gone. Forever.

Monarchy is a reputable brand, but very young, which is why it hasn't gained the mega-status of, say, Seven for all Mankind.

Oh, and I already posted drool icons on the Raw Denim Evo. thread, but here are some more if the point wasn't clearly made:

Availability. Cultizm only had 30 as their smallest size when I ordered. I ended up favoring this fit though, slightly relaxed, but still somewhat fitted and distinguishably bootcut. Besides, when I want the super-slim silhouette, I always have my olas.

None at all. No washing until 4 months or so. Still too early, and I want sharper contrast than the olas had.

The Monarchy's are completely dormant, I don't really have any intention of putting too much time into them. Nice jeans, but I have better coming in the mail. Selvage too.

Old-ish RRDGs. I lost track of their exact age...oh well.
